[ANGELA] Tha fear às an Fhraing a' dèanamh deiseil gus an Cuan Sèimh a shnàmh. 'S dòcha gum bi e air a dhèanamh mus fhaic thu am bhidio seo. Tha Benoît Lecomte air an Cuan Siar a shnàmh mu thràth - ann an 1998. B' e a' chiad duine a rinn sin gun uidheam airson a chumadh air bhog. B' e fìor euchd a bha sin.

Tha mac an duine air coiseachd air a' ghealaich. Shreap daoine na beanntan as àirde anns an t-saoghal agus tha daoine air mòran dhe na h-aibhnichean as fhaide a shnàmh. Ràinig daoine am Pòla a Tuath agus am Pòla a Deas. Tha mòran air a dhol timcheall an t-saoghail - nan cois, air baidhsagalan agus ann an iomadach dòigh eile. Leis an sin, tha e a' fàs nas dorra do dhaoine euchdan a dhèanamh nach deach a dhèanamh roimhe no àiteachan ùra a lorg.

Lorg maraichean ainmeil mar Vasco da Gama agus Crìsdean Columbus dùthchannan ùra, ach tha an saoghal gu tur eadar-dhealaichte a-nis. Càite an tèid Columbus an latha an-diugh? Fon talamh, ann an uaimhean? Bidh gu leòr annta nach deach a lorg fhathast. Fon mhuir? Tha creutairean ùra fhathast gan lorg ann an doimhneachd a' chuain. Tha iomadach annas air grunnd na mara. No anns na speuran - air Mars? Uaireigin 's dòcha, ach cha tachair sin airson deagh ghreis.

Bidh daoine a tha airson siubhal no euchdan a dhèanamh an-diugh mar as trice a' dèanamh rudan a rinn daoine eile mu thràth ... ann an dòighean eadardhealaichte. Tha mòran air slighean ùra a ghabhail suas na beanntan àrda - agus tha slighean air fhàgail fhathast. Tha cuid eile air a bhith a' sgitheadh sìos na beanntan sin.

Nochd a' cheist seo mu euchdan ùra air-loidhne. Bha cuideigin a' moladh a dhol timcheall an t-saoghail air each. Thuirt neach eile gu faodadh duine coiseachd air grunnd na mara eadar Sasainn agus an Fhraing le èideadh dàibheir orra. Cha do rinn duine sin fhathast - cha do rinn co-dhiù nuair a chaidh am bhidio seo a chlàradh.

Bheir sinn sùil air cuid dhe na facail agus abairtean a chleachd mi.

[ANGELA] A man from France is getting ready to swim the Pacific Ocean. He may already have done so by the time you see this video. Benoît Lecomte has already swum the Atlantic Ocean - in 1998. He was the first person to do so without the aid of flotation equipment. That was a true feat.

Man has walked on the moon. People have climbed the highest mountains in the world and people have swum many of the longest rivers. People have reached the North Pole and the South Pole. Many have gone around the world on foot, by bicycle and in many other ways. That means it is becoming harder for people to achieve feats that haven't already been done before or to discover new places.

Famous sailors such as Vasco da Gama and Christopher Columbus discovered new lands, but the world is completely different now. Where will a modern-day Columbus go? Underground, into caves? There is still much to be discovered in them. Under the sea? New creatures are still being discovered in the ocean depths. There are many marvels on the sea floor. Or in the skies - on Mars? Perhaps sometime, but that won't happen for quite a while.

People who want to travel or achieve feats nowadays usually do things that others have done before them ... but in different ways. Many have taken new routes up the high mountains - and there are still new routes left. Others have skied down those mountains.

The question of new achievements came up on line. Someone suggested going around the world on a horse. Someone else said that someone could walk across the sea bed between England and France in a diving suit. No-one has done that yet - or at least they hadn't when this video was recorded.

Let's look at some of the words and phrases I used.
