Boxing the compass
[Eilidh NicLeòid] If you are a sailor, you must be aware iof the weather and just as aware of where you are. In the olden days, each sailor learnt to box the compass as they called it.
[Calum MacIlleathain] The points of the compass are made up with stages and there are 11 ¼ degrees in the unit of measurement degree in each point and there are 32 of them. And they go something like this: North by east, North-northeast, Northeast by north, Northeast, Northeast by east, East-northeast, East by north, East, East by south, East-southeast, Southeast by east, Southeast, Southeast by south, South-southeast, South by east, South, South by west, South-southwest, Southwest by south, Southwest, Southwest by west, West-southwest, West by south, West, West by north, West-northwest, Northwest by west, Northwest, Northwest by north, North-northwest, North by west, North.
