Dragh mu Oifis a’ Phuist ann an Creag Goraidh

[Iain MacIlleathain - Preseantair] Sin freagairt mun teine agus an spòrs fhathast ri thighinn air An Là. Ron sin, ged-tà, tha ceist air èirigh mu na tha an dàn dha seirbheis Oifis a’ Phuist ann an Creag Goraidh ann am Beinn na Fadhla. Tha an fheadhainn a tha ruith na seirbheis an-dràsta, Dàibhidh agus Evelyn Thorington airson an dreuchdan a leigeil dhiubh. Ach tha e air fàilneachadh orra chun an seo, an gnìomhachas a tha ceangailte ris an t-seirbheis a reic. Cunnart ann a-nis gun tèid an oifis phuist a chall agus gum bi aig muinntir na sgìre ri astar a dhol airson fhaighinn. Ag aithris à Uibhist, Shona NicDhòmhnaill.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha David agus Evelyn Thorington a tha a’ ruith seirbheis oifis a’ phuist ann an Creag Goraidh airson an dreuchd a leigeil dhiubh. Ach tha trioblaid aca aonta fhaighinn bho Oifis a’ Phuist an t-seirbheis a stèidheachadh ann an àiteigin eile anns an sgìre. Tha bùth a tha mu mhìle bhuapa deònach an t-seirbheis a ghabhail, ach gu ruige seo tha ceannardan Oifis a’ Phuist air sin a dhiùltadh. Seo Dolly Hoggs bho Lovats.

[Dolly Hoggs] ‘S e am Post Office fhèin a thàinig thugainne airson a ghabhail agus thuirt sinne gun gabhaidh a chionn ‘s chan eil sinn airson an leithid seo a chall ann an seo idir. Agus lìon sinn na forms, rinn sinn a h-uile sìon ‘s an ath rud, agus an uair sin fhuair sinn brath gun robh e air stad, nach robh sinn ga fhaighinn idir gun robh sinn ro fhada air falbh bhon post office a bha a’ dùnadh.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Ma dhùineas Oifis a’ Phuist ann an seo ann an Creag Goraidh, tha na goireasan làn-ùine as fhaisge an uair sin còrr is sia mìle gu tuath ann am Baile a’ Mhanaich, no faisg air fichead mìle gu deas ann an Dalabrog.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha an oifis air a cleachdadh aig gu leòr a th’ air an rathad a dh’ obair agus i fosgladh tràth. Tha i faisg air grunn gnìomhachasan, taighean-òsta agus sgoiltean, mar sin, chan eil David agus Evelyn airson an oifis a chur bhuapa gus am bi iad cinnteach gum bi an t-seirbheis seo ri fhaotainn faisg air làimh ’s tha iad ag aithneachadh cho riatanach ‘s a tha seirbheis làn-ùine do dh’ iomadach duine agus air gnìomhachas a leithid Hebridean Jewellery mar a dh’innse Màiri-Anna NicDhòmhnaill.

[Màiri-Anna NicDhòmhnaill] Bhiodh e gu math duilich dhuinne nan dùineadh Post Office Creag Goraidh a thaobh, dh’ fheumamaid a dhol a Bhaile a’ Mhanaich, ‘s e an ath Phost Office as fhaisge dhuinne, so bheireadh sin uair an uaireadair do dhuine sam bith dhan luchd-obrach a dhol ann.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha Lovats air athchuinge a chur air dòigh agus tha iad ag amas air taic na coimhearsnachd fhaighinn gus ìmpidh a chur air Oifis a’ Phuist, a thuirt gu bheil iad fhathast a’ sanasachadh na h-Oifis mar chothrom gnìomhachais agus gu bheil iad an dòchas rèiteachadh fhaighinn air a’ chùis. Shona NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An Là, Uibhist.

Concern about the Post Office in Creagorry

[Iain MacLean - Presenter] That’s the answer about the fire and the sports still to come on An Là. Before then, though, a question has arisen about the destiny in Creagorry in Benbecula. The people who run the service, David and Evelyn Thorington want to retire. But, they have failed to sell the connected business up to now. There is a danger now that the post office will be lost and the people of the area will have to travel a distance. Reporting from Uist, here’s Shona Macdonald.

[Shona Macdonald – Reporter] David and Evelyn Thorington who run the post office service in Creagorry want to leave their jobs. But, they are having difficulty getting consent from the Post Office to base the service in another place in the area. A shop about one mile away from them are willing to take the service, but up to now, the post office have refused. Here’s Dolly Hoggs from Lovats

[Dolly Hoggs] The Post Office came to us to take it and we said that we would take it as we don’t want to lose it. And we filled in the forms, we did everything and then we received notice that it was stopping, that we would not get it at all as we were too far away from the Post Office that was shutting down.

[Shona Macdonald – Reporter] If the Post Office closes in Creagorry, the full-time services closest would be over six miles north in Balivanich, or about twenty miles south in Daliburgh.

[Shona Macdonald – Reporter] The office is used by many on the road to work and it opens early. It is close to many businesses, hotels and schools, as such, David and Evelyn don’t want to give up the office until they are sure that this service is close by and they recognise how critical that the full-time service is to many people and to a business like Hebridean Jewellery, as Mary-Anne Macdonald told me.

[Mary-Anne Macdonald] It would be very sad if the Creagorry Post Office closed as we would have to go to Balivanich, that’s the next post office close to us, so it would take us an hour for someone, one of our employees to go.

[Shona Macdonald – Reporter] Lovats have set up a petition and they aim to get the community’s support to put pressure on the Post Office, who said that they are still advertising the Office as a business opportunity and they hope to settle the matter. Shona Macdonald, BBC An Là, Uist.
