Cùrsa ùr airson tidsearan ann an Uibhist

Iain MacAonghais - Preseantair] Nise, chaidh cùrsa airson tidsearan a bhrosnachadh gu barrachd Gàidhlig a chleachdadh anns an sgoil a’ ruith ann an Uibhist air an t-seachdain-sa airson a’ chiad uair. Thàinig na tidsearan bho air feadh nan Eilean Siar còmhla airson seachdain ‘s tha iad ag ionnsachadh agus a’ cleachdadh a’ chànain anns a’ choimhearsnachd. Tha Shona NicDhòmhnaill ag aithris.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Chuir a’ bhuidheann Ceòlas air bhonn cùrsa fad seachdain airson leudachadh a thoirt air na sgilean Gàidhlig aig luchd-teagaisg, nach eil aig an àm seo a’ teagaisg tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig. Tha iad a’ toirt cothrom do thidsearan a’ Ghàidhlig aca a neartachadh agus cuideachd gam brosnachadh gu barrachd Gàidhlig a chleachdadh air taobh a-staigh is taobh a-muigh na sgoile. Tha Màiri NicAonghais ag innse mar a chaidh an trèanadh a chur ri chèile, a bhuannachd ris a bheil dùil às agus amasan a thoirt air aghaidh.

[Màiri NicAonghais] Mar a tha mi a’ faicinn, tha an t-seachdain air a bhith fìor mhath agus tha e a’ còrdadh gu mòr ri na tidsearan a th’ air tighinn còmhla airson a’ Ghàidhlig aca fhèin a thoirt air adhart. Agus, tha e air a bhith caran eadar-dhealaichte bho na cùrsaichean eile air a bheil iad air a bhith mu thràth. Agus tha iad air a bhith gu mòr a’ cleachdadh a’ chànain ‘s a’ dol a-mach dhan choimhearsnachd a bhruidhinn Gàidhlig. ‘S e sin Gàidhlig a tha iad a’ faighinn tro na leasanan, Gàidhlig a fhuair iad o àiteachean eile, ach ‘s e an neart a th’ againne ann an Uibhist, gun urrainn dhuinn a dhol a-mach gach là, gu gach àite anns an sgìre agus a’ Ghàidhlig a chleachdadh a thaobh ‘s gu bheil i beò agus gu math làidir againne.

[Màiri NicAonghais] Nise, seo a’ chiad uair agus tha sinn fortanach gun do chuir Bòrd na Gàidhlig agus a’ chomhairle còmhla an cinn agus theirig iad dhuinn cùrsa seachdain a chur air adhart anns a’ choimhearsnachd. Tha e mar amas aig Ceòlas an obair a leasachadh gu h-àraidh a thaobh rud a tha sinn a’ dèanamh le foghlam agus le trèanadh thidsearan.

[Donna Nic Leòid] Bha e math, a bhith a-muigh anns a’ choimhearsnachd ag ionnsachadh faclan a bhios mi a’ cleachdadh leis a’ chloinn sa chlas agam.

A new course for teachers in Uist

[Iain MacInnes - Presenter] Now a course, to inspire teachers to use more Gaelic in school, is running in Uist this week for the first time. The teachers came from all over the Western Isles and they are learning and using the language in the community. Shona MacDonald reports.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The group Ceòlas set up a week-long course to broaden the Gaelic skills of teachers, who at this time do not teach through the medium of Gaelic. They are giving an opportunity to teachers to strengthen Gaelic and also inspire them to use Gaelic inside and outside of the school. Mairi MacInnes tells of how the training was put together, what the expected gain from the training is and aims to take forward.

[Mairi MacInnes] As I see it, the week has been very good and it is greatly enjoyed by the teachers to come together to bring their Gaelic forward. And it is slightly different from the other courses that they have been on already. And they have been using the language and going out to the community and speaking Gaelic. They are getting Gaelic through the lessons, Gaelic that they have learned from other places, but the strength that we have in Uist, that we can go out every day, to each place in the area and use Gaelic as it is alive and very strong here.

[Mairi MacInnes] Now, this is the first time and we are fortunate that Bòrd na Gàidhlig and the council put their heads together to allow us to put on a week-long course in the community. It is like an aim of Ceòlas to develop the work especially on what we are doing with education and teacher training.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] After the lesson of the morning, the teachers are going out to each area in the community where they can see what they have learned being used every day. One of their subjects is recycling and they visited the recycling centre in Benbecula. Maybe this is one of the places that they will take their pupils as part of their lessons. Here’s Donna MacLeod, one of the teachers on this course.

[Donna MacLeod] It was good, to be outside in the community learning words that I will be using with the children in my class.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là, Uist.
