Seachdain shònraichte airson luchd-ciùird ùra

[Iain MacIlleathain - Preseantair] Tha seachdain shònraichte ga comharrachadh an-dràsta airson luchd-ciùird ùra no ‘modern apprenticeships’. Seo an treas bliadhna a chaidh an leithid a dhèanamh agus Riaghaltas na h-Alba ag amas air còig air fhichead mile luchd-ciùird ùr ann an iomadach roinn obrach eadar obair-togail agus cùram cloinne. Thadhail an tè-naidheachd againne ann an Uibhist, Shona NicDhòmhnaill air aon àite a th’ air neach-ciùird fhastadh.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha an t-ionad cùraim chloinne, Cothrom Òg, air obair-ciùird a thoirt do dh’aon neach. Tha iad ag aithneachadh gun toir seo togail dhan sgioba aca agus taic do dhaoine òga a chiad cheum fhaighinn ann an saoghal na h-obrach

[Mòrag NicFhionghain] Nuair a thòisich i, bha i air dìreach straight a-staigh dhan an obair sa nursery againne. Agus, bha i a’ cuideachadh a h-uile duine, bha i glè mhath leis a’ chloinn. Aig an aon àm, tha e really math airson an luchd-obrach ann an seo, o chionn ‘s gu bheil e gu math cudromach airson sinn fhèin airson cumail suas leis an àraich ann an dòighean san obair againne.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] ‘S e Paula NicAonghais a tha ag ionnsachadh sgilean cùraim chloinne aig Cothrom Òg. Aig deireadh a’ chùrsa, gheibh i teisteanas gu bheil i air na sgilean ceart ionnsachadh. Dh’ inns i mar a tha seo na chuideachadh dhise agus cuid dhen a bhios i a’ dèanamh còmhla ris a’ chloinn.

[Paula NicAonghais] Tha e nas fhasa dhomh a bhith ag obair ann an Cothrom airson ‘s gu bheil fios agam, uill, tha eòlas agam mu a bhith ag obair còmhla ri daoine a th’ ann mu thràth. Mu thràth, tha e a’ còrdadh rium cho mòr. ‘S toigh leam a bhith ag obair còmhla ri clann. Leis an fheadhainn mhòra mar trì gu còig, tha iadsan ag ionnsachadh tòrr airson a dhol dhan sgoil. An fheadhainn as òige, bidh iadsan ag ionnsachaidh àireamhan agus dathan, rudan a tha nas fhasa dhaibh

A special week for new apprentices

[Iain MacLean - Presenter] There is a special week recognising apprentices or ‘modern apprenticeships’ just now. This is the third year that something like this has been done and the Scottish Government aims to have twenty –five thousand new apprentices in many areas of work, between construction and childcare. Our reporter in Uist, Shona MacDonald visited one place which has hired an apprentice.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The Childcare centre, Cothrom Òg, has given an apprenticeship to one person. They recognise that this gives a boost to their team and helps young people to get their first step into the world of work.

[Morag MacKinnon] When she started, she was just straight in to our nursery work. And she was helping everybody; she was really good with the children. At the same time, it is really good for the employees that are here, as it is very important for us to keep up our skills of the job.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Paula MacInnes is learning childcare skills at Cothrom Òg. At the end of the course, she will get a certificate to state that she has learned the correct skills. She told how this helps her and what she does with the children.

[Paula MacInnes] It is easier for me to work in Cothrom Òg as I know, well, I have knowledge of how to work with people already, Already, I enjoy it so much. I like to work with children. With the bigger ones, who are about three to five, they are learning lots to go to school. The youngest one, they are learning numbers and colours, things that are easier for them.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là, Uist.
