Sgoilearan na dùthcha soirbheachail sna deuchainnean aca

[Angela NicIlleathain - Preseantair] Tha sgoilearan air feadh Alba air a bhith a’ faighinn a-mach an-diugh mar a chaidh leotha anns na deuchainnean aca. Rinn còrr is ceud gu leth mìle òganach pàipearan aig Ìre Choitcheann, Àrd Ìre no Sàr Àrd Ìre. Thuirt Riaghaltas na h-Alba nach robh sgoilearan na dùthcha a-riamh cho soirbheachail. Seo cuideachd a’ bhliadhna mu dheireadh dhen Ìre Choitcheann nuair a dh’ fhosglas na sgoiltean nas fhaide air a’ mhìos, ‘s e Ìre Nàiseanta Ceithir ‘s a’ Chòig a bhios ann. An aithris-sa aig Darren Linc.

[Darren Linc – Neach-aithris] Bliadhna eile agus clàr eile ga bhriseadh. Tha sgoilearan na h-Alba a’ dèanamh nas fheàrr anns na deuchainnean aca aig Ìre Choitcheann, Àrd Ìre agus Sàr Àrd Ìre na rinn iad a-riamh roimhe. ‘S e àrdachadh beag a th’ air a bhith ann, ach àrdachadh a dh’ aindeoin sin

[Darren Linc – Neach-aithris] Aig Sgoil Gàidhlig Ghlaschu na bu tràithe an-diugh, bha Molly a’ faighinn a-mach na rinn i tro theachdaireachd teagsa. Bha am post gun tadhal fhathast le litir ach abair thusa gun robh Molly agus a h-athair toilichte le na bha iad a’ faicinn.

[Molly] Chaidh leam gu math. Fhuair mi A agus sia aon aig an Ìre Choitcheann agus tha mi gu math toilichte le sin.

[Darren Linc – Neach-aithris] Fhuair Molly na bha i ag ullachadh air a shon, ach gach bliadhna, feumaidh grunn sgoilearan taic agus tha iad a’ dèanamh nas fheàrr no, ‘s dòcha, nas miosa na bha dùil aca.

[Donalda NicComb] Bidh sinne a’ toirt seachad taic aig an deireadh sheachdain. Tha luchd-obrach na sgoile a tha a’ gabhail uallach airson taobh stiùiridh. Bidh iadsan a-staigh, air eagal ‘s gu bheil sgoilearan ann a tha, ‘s dòcha ceistean aca a thaobh an d’ fhuair iad gu leòr airson faighinn air cùrsa sònraichte, no ma rinn iad na b’ fheàrr a bheil rudeigin eile a bu chòir dhaibh a bhith a’ beachdachadh air?

Agus tha fhios ‘am gu bheil an luchd-obrach anns an sgoil a tha seo agus air feadh Alba ag obair cho trang.

[Molly] Bha mi a’ smaointinn gun robh iad doirbh gu leòr agus rinn mi tòrr obrach airson seo. ‘S dòcha gu bheil iad nas fhasa, ach bha mi a’ smaointinn gun robh iad fhathast doirbh gu leòr.

[Darren Linc – Neach-aithris] Leis an naidheachd mu shoirbheachas a bharrachd, tha deireadh linne ann cuideachd. Seo bliadhna mu dheireadh dhen Ìre Choitcheann, an Standard Grades, a th’ air a bhith ann bho mu mheadhan nan ochdadan. Na àite, thig Ìrean Nàiseanta a Ceithir agus a Còig nuair a dh’ fhosglas na sgoiltean a-rithist. ‘S e barrachd sùbailteachd ann a bhith ag ionnsachadh cuspairean, aon rud a thathas a’ coimhead air a shon le na h-Ìrean ùra. Le barrachd cuideim ga thoirt air sgilean agus foghlam practaigeach. Mar sin, ‘s e obair cùrsa tron bhliadhna a bhios anns a’ chumantas a’ sealltainn cho math ‘s a rinn sgoilear. Agus chan e dìreach ciamar a rinn iad ann an seòmar-deuchainn. An dòchas a th’ ann, ‘s e gun obraich seo do sgoilearan, do thidsearan agus do luchd-fastaidh. Darren Linc, BBC An Là, ann an Glaschu.

The county's pupils are successful in their exams

[Angela MacLean - Presenter] Pupils all over Scotland have been finding out today how they got on in their exams. More than a hundred and fifty thousand young people sat papers at Standard Grade level, Higher, or Advanced Higher. The Scottish Government said that the country’s pupils have never been so successful. This is also the final year of the Standard Grades, when the schools reopen later in the month, it will be National 4 and 5 that will be studied. Darren Laing has this report.

[Darren Laing – Reporter] Another year and another record has been broken. Pupils of Scotland have done better in their Standard Grades, Highers and Advanced Highers than they have ever done. It’s a small increase, but an increase never-the-less.

[Darren Laing – Reporter] At Glasgow Gaelic School earlier today, Molly found out how she did through a text message. The post had not visited yet but you bet that Molly and her dad were happy with what they saw.

[Molly] I did well. I got two As and six 1s at Standard Grade and I am very pleased with that.

[Darren Laing – Reporter] Molly got what she had prepared for, but every year, lots of pupils get support for doing better, or worse, that they expected.

[Donalda McComb] We’ll offer them support at the weekend. The school staff have trained to offer direction. This is in case pupils maybe have questions as to whether they have enough for a particular course, or if they did better is there is something they should be thinking of.

[Darren Laing – Reporter] There will be joy all over Scotland and pupils doing better than they have ever done. Although, there will be some questions as to whether all that has happened is that exams have got easier?

[Donalda McComb] I would not say that exams have got easier. I saw the faces on the pupils coming out of the exam hall after some of the subjects this year. And I know that the staff in this school and all over Scotland work so hard.

[Molly] I thought it was hard enough and I did a lot of work for it. Maybe they are easier, but I thought that it was hard enough.

[Darren Laing – Reporter] With the news about success, this was also an end of an era too. This was the last year of the Standard Grades, which have been around since the middle of the eighties. In their place, National 4 and 5 will come when the schools open again. There will be more flexibility in learning subjects something that they are looking at with the new grades. With more weight being put on skills and practical education. As such, coursework through the year will generally show how well the pupil does. And it won’t just be how they did in the exam room. The hope is that this will work for pupils, to teachers and examiners. Darren Laing, BBC An Là, in Glasgow.
