Cupa Comadaidh a’ Mhòid

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Coltas àbhaisteach oidhche Mhàirt aig a’ Mhòd, ach san Spiegel tent, bha cùisean car diofraichte. Tha an fhèis SPREE a’ ruith ri taobh a’ Mhòid am Pàislig an t-seachdain-sa. Agus Cupa Comadaidh a’ Mhòid ga thoirt seachad airson a’ chomadaidh stand-up as fheàrr.

[Carina NicLeòid] An turas mu dheireadh a chaidh a thoirt seachad, b’ ann airson dialogue, no duologue èibhinn, ach am-bliadhna, tha sinn ga thoirt seachad airson stand-up. Tha mi air a bhith dèanamh bùithtean-obrach ann an stand-up ‘s tha dhà no trì air tighinn agus a-nochd, taghaidh sinn am fear as fhèarr, chan eil sgeul air na boireannaich. Taghaidh sinn am fear as fheàrr, tha sinn a’ smaoineachadh, a tha airidh air an duais.

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] A bharrachd air an fharpais, bha cleasaichean cuideachd ri fealla-dhà. Nam measg, bha fashionista a’ toirt seachad puingean air aodach freagarrach airson a’ Mhòid agus bhiodh i aithnichte gu leòr dha feadhainn a bhios a’ leantainn prògraman meidigeach air an telebhisean.

[Fashionista] Bha mi nam corp ann an Holby, Bha mi nam corp ann an Casualty agus nam corp ann an Silent Witness. Ò, agus bha mi nam corp ann an Midsummer’s Murders, air repeat gach Dihaoine.

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] ‘S e Cailean Monghan a choisinn an duais airson a’ chomadaidh as fheàrr is gun aige ach beagan Gàidhlig ionnsachaidh fhathast

[Cailean Monghan] Uill, tha mi ag ionnsachadh Scouse Gàidhlig, no Gaelic Scouse, no Sgaelic at er, Scally Mòr Ostaig, tha mi aig Sabhal Mòr Ostaig anns an Eilean Sgitheanach, mar a chanas Julia, Gaelic Ground Zero.

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] ‘S i Carina a chrìochnaich an-oidhche, ‘s gu dearbha dh’ fhàg i gàire air aodann an luchd-amhairc is iad a’ falbh a dh’fheuchainn am fealla-dha fhèin ann an taighean-seinnse Phàislig.

The Mod Comedy Cup

[Allan MacLeod – Reporter] A typical sight of a Tuesday night at the Mod, but in the Spiegel tent, things were kind of different. The Spree festival is running beside the Mod this week. And the Mod Comedy Cup is given for the best stand-up comedy.

[Carina MacLeod] The last time this was given, it was for funny dialogue, or duologue, but this year, we are giving it for stand-up. I have been doing workshops in stand-ups and two or three have come tonight, we’ll choose the best man, there is no sign of the women. We’ll choose the best one, we think, that merits the prize.

[Allan MacLeod – Reporter] In addition to the competition, there were actors having fun. In their midst, there was a fashionista giving points for suitable clothes for the Mod and she will be known to many who follow medical programmes on television.

[Fashionista] I was a corpse on Holby, a corpse on Casualty and a corpse on Silent Witness. Oh and I was a corpse on Midsummer’s Murders, on repeat every Friday.

[Allan MacLeod – Reporter] Colin Monghan won the prize for the best comedy and he only has a little Gaelic.

[Colin Monghan] Well, I am learning Scouse Gaelic, or Gaelic Scouse, or Sgaelic at er, Scally Mòr Ostaig, I am at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in the Isle of Skye, as Julia says, Gaelic Ground Zero.

[Allan MacLeod – Reporter] It was Carina who ended the night and she certainly left a smile on ever face in the audience and they are away to try and have their own fun in the pubs of Paisley.

However, you can see a translation of the transcript by selecting the English or Gaelic and English tabs.

Key vocabulary is also provided, with accompanying Gaelic audio. This is a selected from the vocabulary contained in the news report and may include a selection of place names, news terminology, useful colloquialisms and phrases.
