Buidheann coimhearsnachd a' reic earrannan ann am Muile

[Iain MacAonghais - Preseantair] Nise, tha buidheann coimhearsnachd ann am Muile a tha a’ cur romhpa sgeama Hydro a thogail an-dràsta a' reic earrannan anns a’ phròiseact. Bha aig Green Energy Mull ri trì cheud is deich air fhichead mìle not a thogail ro dheireadh na mìos seo. Is dh’inns iad bho chionn beagan ùairean a thìde gu bheil iad air an targaid sin a ruighinn. Mar a tha am fear-naidheachd againn ann an Earra-Ghàidheil, Andreas Wolff ag aithris.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha buidheann coimhearsnachd ann am Muile ag iarraidh sgeama Hydro a thogail air an allt seo faisg air Creag an Iubhair. Cosgaidh e còrr is millean not. Thathar an dòchas gun cuir muinntir Mhuile taic ris.

[Murray Finch] We have a finance package from a consortium of banks which will enable us to construct the project. But they require us to contribute our own 30% of equity into the scheme and we’re raising £330,000 through a community share issue at the moment.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha iad a-nis air an targaid aca a ruighinn, ach bidh cothrom aig daoine fhathast ro Dhihaoine earrannan a cheannach.

[Seònaid Dhòmhnallach] Tha farpais ann agus a’ bhuidheann choimhearsnachd a thrusas an t-airgead as motha gheibh iadsan duais còig ceud not.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Ach chan e sin an aon bhuannachd a gheibh muinntir an eilein às an seo. Nuair a bhios an sgeama deiseil aig deireadh na bliadhna, thèid stòras airgid a chur air bhonn anns am faodadh buidhnean coimhearsnachd maoineachadh fhaotainn san àm ri teachd.

[Murray Finch] From Year One, we’ll be producing something like twenty-five thousand pounds for the local community and as the capital for the project is paid off after nine or ten years, that figure will go into six figures, so it will be over £100,000 a year.

[Seònaid Dhòmhnallach] Chuir mi beagan airgid a-staigh ann oir bha mi a’ smaoineachadh gur e sgeama glè mhath a bh’ ann. Tha iad an dòchas, ann an ceann bliadhna no dhà gum bi airgead a’ tighinn air ais don choimhearsnachd.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Bidh an sgeama Hydro seo a’ cruthachadh ceithir cheud kilowatt de chumhachd agus leis an sin, dh’fhaodadh e dealan a chumail ri suas ri cheud agus ochdad taigh, ach thathar cuideachd an dòchas gun lùghdaich e na thathar a leigeil ma sgaoil de ghasaichean carboin air an eilean seo. Andreas Wollf, BBC An Là, Muile.

A community group in Mull sells shares

[Iain MacAonghais - Presenter] Now, a community group in Mull are setting up a Hydro scheme are selling shares in the project. Green Energy Mull had to raise £70,000 before the end of the month. And they told us a few hours ago that they had reached that target. As our reporter in Argyll, Andreas Wolff, reports.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] A community group in Mull wants to build a Hydro scheme in this stream near Creag an Iubhair. It will cost more than a million pounds. They hope that the people of Mull will support this.

[Murray Finch] We have a finance package from a consortium of banks which will enable us to construct the project. But they require us to contribute our own 30% of equity into the scheme and we’re raising £330,000 through a community share issue at the moment.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] They have reached their target, but there will still be a chance for people to buy shares before Friday.

[Janet MacDonald] There is a competition and the community group that raises the greatest amount of money; they will win a prize of £500.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] But that is not the only benefit that the people of this island will het. When the scheme is finished at the end of the year, there will be fund set up which community groups will be able to access in the future.

[Murray Finch] From Year One, we’ll be producing something like twenty-five thousand pounds for the local community and as the capital for the project is paid off after nine or ten years, that figure will go into six figures, so it will be over £100,000 a year.

[Janet MacDonald] I put a little money to it as I thought it was a great scheme. They hope in a year or two that the money will come back to the community.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] This Hydro scheme will create 400 kilowatts of power and with that, it can create electricity for 280 houses, but they also hope that it will decrease the number of carbon gases on this island. Andreas Wolff, BBC An Là, Mull.
