Iomairtean ùra ag amas air dràibhearan òga

[Innes Rothach - Preseantair] Chaidh dòighean airson lùghdachadh a dhèanamh air na tha de dhràibhearan òga gam marbhadh air ròidean na h-Alba gach bliadhna a dheasbad aig Pàrlamaid Holyrood an-diugh. Am measg nam molaidhean a chaidh a chur air adhart, bha plana airson casg a chur air dràibhearan ùra a bhith a’ dol a-mach air na ròidean air an oidhche Tha tuilleadh aig Ailean MacLeòid

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Tha a’ bhuaidh a th’ aig tubaistean bàis ri fhaireachdainn às a h-uile ceàrnaidh dhen dùthaich. Bha an deasbad an-diugh mar phàirt dha iomairt aig Holyrood gus cead-dràibhidh le ceumannan a thoirt a-steach. Ach tha seo an-dràsta an urra ri Westminster.

[Cè MacIlleDhuinn] The Scottish Parliament itself last debated young driver safety on the 7th of September 2011 and supported the view that if a graduated licence scheme was introduced in Scotland up to 19 lives per year could be saved.

[Dàibhidh Stiùbhart] One in five newly-qualified drivers crash within six months of obtaining their licence and a US study showed that young people who are under 25, who’ve more than three passengers driving the weekend are five times more likely to be involved in a crash.

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Tha diofar molaidhean ann, ach tha beachdan ann gum biodh feum air casg air dràibheadh san dorchadas. Cead a bhith aig feadhainn òg’ càraichean le einnseanan beaga a dhràibheadh a-mhàin agus staid a chur air dràibhearan ùra a’ siubhal le an co-aoisean anns a’ chàr. Chan eil cuid dhen fheadhainn air an toireadh na riaghailtean buaidh ag aontachadh idir ged-thà.

[Allison NicAnTòisich] Uill, tha mise a’ smaointinn feumaidh a h-uile duine air an rathad a bhith sàbhailte nuair a tha sinn anns a’ chàr, air a’ bhus, rud sam bith, feumaidh a h-uile duine a bhith faiceallach, chan eil mi buileach cinnteach carson a tha daoine a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil dràibhearan òga nas miosa.

[Alasdair MacIllInnein] Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil dòighean eile air faighinn seachad air an rud a tha iad a’ feuchainn ri làimhseachadh an-dràsta a bharrachd air riaghailtean a tha iad a’ dèanamh sa Phàrlamaid an-dràsta. Chan eil mi a’ smaoineachadh gun cuidich na riaghailtean a tha iad a’ beachdachadh air an-dràsta a’ chùis, ‘s iad a thaobh dràibhearan òga agus tubaistean is rudan mar sin. Ach, dh’fheumadh iad coimhead air dòighean eile air an làimhseachadh oir chan eil mi a’ smaoineachadh gun dèan e mòran buannachd.

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Bha beachd aig an dithis aca gum biodh e iomchaidh stad a chur air càraichean le einnseanan mòra a bhith aig feadhainn òga leis nach cuireadh sin stad orra a bhith le an caraidean no a-muigh tron oidhche. Ged nach eil iad ag aontachadh le na dòighean a chaidh a dheasbad an-diugh, bha iad ag aontachadh le amasan an deasbaid, sinn uile a bhith nas fhaiceallaiche air an rathad. New campaigns aimed at young drivers

[Innes Munro - Presenter] New ways to reduce the number of deaths of young drivers on Scotland’s roads each year is being debated at the Holyrood Parliament today. Amongst the recommendations that have been proposed, there was a plan to ban new drivers from going out on the roads at night.

[Allan MacLeod - Reporter] The effect of fatal accidents is felt in every corner of the country. The debate today was part of a Holyrood campaign to bring in a graduated driving licence. But just now, this is up to Westminster.

[Keith Brown] The Scottish Parliament itself last debated young driver safety on the 7th of September 2011 and supported the view that if a graduated licence scheme was introduced in Scotland up to 19 lives per year could be saved.

[David Stewart] One in five newly-qualified drivers crash within six months of obtaining their licence and a US study showed that young people who are under 25, who’ve more than three passengers driving the weekend are five times more likely to be involved in a crash.

[Allan MacLeod - Reporter] There are different recommendations, but there is a view that a ban on driving in the dark would be useful. Permission for young people to only drive cars with small engines and put a stop to new drivers travelling with peers in the car. Many of those to whom the rules are aimed do not agree, though.

[Allison MacIntosh] Well, I think that everyone on the road should be safe when we are in the car, on the bus, anything, everyone must be careful; I am not sure why people think young drivers are worse.

[Alasdair MacLennan] I think there are other ways achieve what they are trying to develop just now as well as the laws that they are trying to make in Parliament just now. I don’t think that these laws that they are debating just now, will do the job regarding young drivers and accidents and things like that. But, they need to look at other ways to develop as I don’t think there will be many advantages.

[Allan MacLeod - Reporter] Both held the view that it would be appropriate to stop young people from having cars with big engines but that won’t stop them going out with friends or out at night. Although they don’t agree with the ways of things that were debated today, they agree with aims of the debate, for us all to be more careful on the Road. Allan MacLeod, BBC An Là.
