Còmhlan Pìoba an Eilein Sgitheanaich a' gabhail pàirt ann am Farpais Eòrpach nan Còmhlan Pìoba

[Dòmhnall Angaidh Moireasdan - Preseantair] Bidh Còmhlan Pìoba an Eilein Sgitheanaich a' gabhail pàirt sa chiad cho-fharpais nan eachdraidh air an deireadh sheachdain seo. Disathairne, bidh iad a' siubhal a dh'Fharrais airson nan Co-fharpaisean Eòrpach. Chaidh Eilidh NicLeòid a dh'fhaicinn mar a bha an deasachadh aca a' dol.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Cluicheadairean òga an Eilein Sgitheanaich a’ cumail ceòl na pìob-mòr beò ann an sgìre far a bheil an dìleab a’ dol air ais grunn ghinealaich. Ach a dh’aindeoin na h-eachdraidh sin agus gun do choisinn cuid a bhuill duaisean iad fhèin, cha robh an còmhlan riamh ann an co-fharpais bhon a chaidh a stèidheachadh bho chionn leth-cheud bliadhna.

[Lachaidh MacIlliosa] Mar a bha e thairis air na bliadhnaichean a chaidh seachad cha robh muinntir a’ Chòmhlain Phìoba, cha robh ùine aca air sàilleabh an obair a bh’ aca agus cha robh iad airson an ùine chur seachad fad a’ Gheamhraidh a’ deasachadh agus dèanamh cinnteach gun robh iad deiseil airson a bhith cluich ann an co-fharpais.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] ‘S e an t-ionnsachadh òg a tha na pìobairean òg a’ faighinn san sgoil agus anns a’ choimhearsnachd a thug chun na h-ìre iad far a bheilear ga meas math gu leòr airson dùbhlan cho mòr ri na co-fharpaisean Eòrpach, gun luaidh air na h-uairean fada a’ deasachadh air a shon.

[Kayleigh] Thòisich sinn an-uiridh anns An Dàmhair tha mi smaoineachadh agus tha sinn air a bhith a’ cluich a h-uile oidhche Mhairt ron sin agus air Disathairne tha sinn a’ cluich ùine mhòr. Tha sinn a’ cluich san sgoil agus tha còmhlan-ciùil san sgoil cuideachd so tha sinn a’ cluich san chòmhlan-ciùil. Tha sinn a’ cur tòrr oidhirp a-steach.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Bidh iad a’ cluich ceithir fuinn ach chan iad a-mhàin na pìobairean a dh’fheumas a bhith gleusta. Chan eil an drumaireachd idir cho sìmplidh ri bhith bualadh na h-ionnsramaid le mhaide.

[Iain] Oh tha e tòrr, tòrr nas duilghe na sin, tòrr tòrr. Tha pìosan ann a tha gu math doirbh, gu math duilich, tha dìreach pìosan beaga mar rudiments beag ann a tha gu math doirbh.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Bidh na drumairean agus na pìobairean Sgitheanach a’ farpais ri dusan còmhlan eile aig pàirce nan Granndach ann am Farrais Disathairne, a’ spaidsearachd agus a’ gabhail ceum eachdraidheil aig a’ cheart àm.

[Kayleigh] Bidh sinn caran nearbhasach. Tha mi smaoineachadh nuair a bhios sinn an sin gum bi sinn toilichte faicinn a h-uile duine, eile a h-uile duine eile a tha sinn an aghaidh agus rudan mar sin.

[Iain] Tha mi smaoineachadh gum bi sinn beagan nas fheàrr. Bidh sinn aig an achadh agus bidh sinn deiseil. Deiseil airson cluich.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Eilidh NicLeòid, BBC An La, An t-Eilean Sgitheanach.

The Isle of Skye pipe band take part in the European Championship of Pipe Bands

[Donald Morrison – Presenter] The Skye Pipe Band will be taking part in their first competition ever this weekend. On Saturday, they will travel to Forres for the European Championships. Eilidh Macleod went to see how their preparation was going.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] Young Skye musicians keeping pipe music alive in an area where the legacy goes back many generations. But despite this history and members having won many prizes themselves in the past, the band have never competed in the fifty years since they were founded.

[Lachie Gillies] Over the last few years the band members just haven’t had the time due to work commitments and they didn’t want to spend the Winter putting in the work that’s needed to be ready to compete.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] The pipers are now learning from a young age in school and in the community and this has taken them to a level where they are deemed good enough to compete and to face a challenge as big as the European Championships, not to mention the long hours they’ve put in preparing.

[Kayleigh] We started last year in October I think and we’ve been playing every Tuesday night since then and we have a longer practice on a Saturday. We play in school and have a school pipe band too so we play in two pipe bands. We put a lot of effort in.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] They will play four tunes but it’s not just the pipers who will need to be skilled. Drumming is not as easy as hitting an instrument with two sticks.

[Iain] Oh it’s much, much more difficult than that, a lot more. There are bits that are very hard, very difficult, little bits, small rudiments that are very difficult.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] The Skye drummers and pipers will be competing against twelve other bands at Grant Park in Forres on Saturday, marching and stepping into history at the same time.

[Kayleigh] We will all be a little nervous. I think once we are there we will be happy to see everyone.

[Iain] I think we will be ok. When we get to the park we will be ready. Ready to play.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] Eilidh Macleod, BBC An La, the Isle Of Skye.
