Ionad ùr airson daoine gun dachaigh ann an Steòrnabhagh

[Angela NicIlleathain – Preseantair] Sin fhathast ri thighinn. Dh’fhosgail goireas ann an Steòrnabhagh, a tha a' toirt àite-fuirich eadar-amail dha daoine gun dachaigh, gu h-oifigeil an-diugh. Tha àite airson 28 duine ann an Ionad Acres. Chosg an togalach £2m. Leis a' ghoireas ùr seo, thathas an dòchas gun tig lùghdachadh air an àireamh dhaoine a tha gun dachaigh, agus a tha a' fuireach ann an taighean leabaidh is bracaist. Seo Ruaraidh Rothach.

[Ruaraidh Rothach – Neach-aithris] An-dràsta sna h-Eileanan an Iar tha 80 teaghlach ann an àitean fuirich eadar-amail. Tha iad ann an àitean leabaidh is bracaist agus taighean. Chan e trioblaid a th’ ann a tha follaiseach anns na h-eileanan, ach chan eil teagamh gu bheil e ann.

[Iain MacÌomhair] Tha mi creidsinn an-dràsta gu bheil faisg air ceud duine a’ fuireach sna taighean, feadhainn aig nach eil dachaigh no tha fuireach còmhla ri teaghlaichean eile.

[Ruaraidh Rothach – Neach-aithris] Tha dòchas ann gum bi an togalach ùr seo na chuideachadh dha chuid dhe na daoine sin iad fhèin fhaighinn a-steach do dh'àitean-fuirich maireannach.

[An Comh Tormod Dòmhnallach] Thairis air na bliadhnaichean tha sinn air a bhith cur taic ri daoine agus iad a’ fuireach ann an àitichean leabaidh is bracaist. Cuid dhiubh le teaghlaichean, feadhainn aca le teaghlaichean gu math mòr agus chan e àite freagarrach a tha sin dha daoine bhith fuireach ann airson seachdainean agus mìosan air sreath a chèile, tha e tòrr nas freagarraiche a bhith ann an ionad dhen t-seòrsa far a bheil na seòmraichean aca fhèin aca gu ìre mhòr agus ‘s urrainn dhaibh a bhith air leth bho dhaoine eile mas e sin a tha iad ag iarraidh a dhèanamh. Tha seòmraichean eile ann far an urrainn dhaibh a bhith còmhla – tha e mar gum biodh baile beag agus anns na 24 seòmairean, dh’fhaodadh gum biodh suas ri co-dhiù suas ri 30 neach a’ fuireach anns an togalach tha seo agus faodaidh iad a bhith cruinneachadh ann an àitichean far a bheil e comasach dhaibh gu lèir cruinneachadh anns an togalach.

[Ruaraidh Rothach – Neach-aithris] Tha cumhachd ath-nuadhachail air a chleachdadh airson an togalach a chumail blàth.

[An Comh Tormod Dòmhnallach] Uill tha an togalach fhèin air a dhealbh gu ìre àrd dha-rìribh a thaobh nan cosgaisean a bhios ann co-cheangailte ris an togalach thairis air na bliadhnaichean. Thathas a’ cleachdadh cumhachd ath-nuadhachail agus thathas air an togalach a chòmhdachadh ann an dòigh ‘s nach bi uimhir a dh’fheum aig tuilleadh ‘s a’ chòrr teas a bhith ga chleachdadh ann ach tha mi smaoineachadh gu bheil ann an iomadach dòigh eile tha e air a sgeadachadh math dha-rìribh agus tha mi smaoineachadh gur e am prìomh adhbhar airson sin – gum bi daoine cofhurtail ann ged a bhios iad ann an suidheachadh gun dachaigh a tha gu math mì-chofhurtail, tha seo a’ toirt na h-uimhir de chofhurtachd dhaibh agus shaoilinn le sin gum bi e nas fhasa dhaibh àite fuirich fhaighinn dhaibh fhèin ùine.

[Ruaraidh Rothach – Neach-aithris] Tha deichnear a’ fuireach ann an seo an-dràsta agus thathar an dòchas gun tèid seo a mheudachadh a dh’aithghearr, a’ lughdachadh an àireamh de dhaoine gun dachaigh a tha tàmh an-dràsta ann an àitichean leabaidh agus bracaist agus gum faigh iad barrachd taic le na trioblaidean aca ann an seo. Ruaraidh Rothach, BBC An Là, Steòrnabhagh.

New homeless unit in Stornoway

[Angela Maclean – Presenter] That’s still to come. A new facility in Stornoway, which provides temporary accommodation to homeless people, was opened officially today. The Acres Centre can accommodate 28 residents. The building cost £2million. It’s hoped that this new facility will help lower the number of homeless people and those living in B&Bs. Here’s Roddy Munro.

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] There are 80 families currently in temporary accommodation in the Western Isles. They are in B&Bs and houses. It’s not an obvious issue in the islands but a problem nonetheless.

[Iain MacIver] I believe at the moment that there are almost 100 people living in these houses, some who are homeless or staying with other families.

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] It’s hoped that this new building will help some of the people as they attempt to find permanent accommodation.

[Cllr Norman MacDonald] Over the years we have been offering support to homeless people staying in B&Bs. Several with families, some with very large families and these aren’t suitable places for them to be living in for weeks or months at a time. It’s far more suitable for them to be in a centre such as this where they have their own rooms and can have their own space if they so desire. There are communal areas too; it’s like a little community. The building can accommodate up to 30 people in its 24 rooms and allows them to be together in one place.

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] Renewable energy is being used to keep the building warm.

[Cllr Norman MacDonald] The building itself has been designed to a very high standard to keep running costs low over the next few years. Renewable energy is being used and the building has been insulated in a way which enables it to retain heat more efficiently. I also think it has been very well decorated, the main reason being so that people feel more comfortable, although their situation may be unstable. I would say in time this will help them find their own accommodation.

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] Ten people live here now and they hope to expand this soon, lowering the number of homeless people currently living in B&Bs and providing them with help in finding accommodation. Roddy Munro, BBC An Là, Stornoway.
