Co-bhanntachd eadar Comann Eachdraidh Nis agus Acair

[Angela NicIllEathain – Preseantair] Chaidh leabhar ùr fhoillseachadh ann an Nis, ann an Leòdhas aig deireadh na seachdain a tha cuimhneachadh orrasan bhon sgìre a bha sa chiad chogadh. Chaidh an leabhar a dhèanamh tro cho-bhanntachd eadar Comann Eachdraidh Nis agus Acair. A thuilleadh air an sin, chaidh taisbeanadh ùr air buaidh a’ chogaidh mhòir fhosgladh. Tha an aithris-sa aig Catrìona NicIlleFhinnein.

[Catrìona NicIlleFhinnein – Neach-aithris] Tha sgìre Nis air a bhith a’ comharrachadh a’ chiad chogaidh mar a tha mòran de sgìrean eile. Bho chionn dhà no trì mhìosan, thòisich iad le a bhith a’ cur poppy aig gach dachaigh far an deach cuideigin a mharbhadh. Disathairne, bha latha mòr aca an seo aig Comann Eachdraidh Nis, far an deach leabhar fhoillseachadh agus cuideachd, dh'fhosgail iad taisbeanadh sònraichte.

[Catrìona NicIlleFhinnein – Neach-aithris] Bha Comann Eachdraidh Nis a’ cur thairis Disathairne agus mòran air nochdadh airson toradh cuid obrach a’ Chomainn fhaicinn. ‘S e co-bhanntachd eadar iad fhèin agus Acair a thug an leabhar a tha seo gu buil agus tha iomadh puing shònraichte mu dheidhinn.

[Agnes Rennie – Acair] ‘S e an rud a tha sònraichte mu dheidhinn a’ phròiseict seo, an leabhar agus an taisbeanadh, agus a h-uile càil eile a thachair am-bliadhna, gun do thachair e ann an coimhearsnachd. Taobh a-staigh coimhearsnachd bheag, ann an Leòdhas. Agus, chan e a-mhàin gu bheil sinn a’ faighinn sgeulachd coimhearsnachd, tha sinn a’ faighinn sgeulachd nan daoine, agus tha sinn ga faighinn ann am briathran nan daoine, agus briathran an fheadhainn a bha thall agus a chunnaic.

[Catrìona NicIlleFhinnein – Neach-aithris] Chaill cheud agus sia duine deug às an sgìre am beatha anns a’ Chiad Chogadh. Is ann airson feadhainn dhe na daoine sin a chuimhneachadh a tha Comann Eachdraidh Nis air a bhith ag obair air sreath de phròiseactan am-bliadhna. Agus thug iad sin buaidh air a’ choimhearsnachd air fad.

[Anna NicSuain – Comunn Eachdraidh Nis] Bha e inntinneach nuair a bha na poppies againn a-muigh. Thog sin aire dhaoine gu na chaidh a chall de dhaoine, agus bha òg is aost a’ bruidhinn mu dheidhinn. Bha an fheadhainn òg a’ faighneachd dha na seann daoine a bha am poppy a tha sin a’ riochachadh, agus chan urrainn dhuinne tuigsinn a’ bhuaidh a bh’ aig a’ chall a bha sin. Agus chan e a-mhàin an fheadhainn a chaidh a chall ach cuideachd an fheadhainn a thill dhachaigh às a’ chogadh agus cha robh iad a-chaoidh an aon rud ‘s a bha iad.

[Catrìona NicIlleFhinnein – Neach-aithris] Tha e air leth follaiseach gun tug an àireamh mhòr de dhaoine a chaill am beatha anns a’ chogadh buaidh mhòr dha-rìribh air an sgìre seo agus na diofar bhailtean ann. Ach a-nis, leis an taisbeanadh a tha seo air fhoillseachadh aig Comann Eachdraidh Nis, agus cuideachd leabhar ùr, tha co-dhiù dòigh aig muinntir Nis air cuimhneachadh orrasan a chaill am beatha. Catrìona NicIlleFhinnein, BBC An Là, ann an Nis.

Partnership between Ness Historical society and Acair

[Angela MacLean – Presenter] A new book was launched in Ness, Lewis at the weekend that remembers those in the area that were in the First World War. The book was made through in partnership between the Ness Historical Society and Acair. In addition to this, a new exhibition about the effect of the Great War was launched. The report comes from Catriona MacLennan.

[Catriona MacLennan – Reporter] Tha district of Ness has been marking the First World War, like many other districts. Around two or three months ago, they started by leaving a poppy at each house where someone was killed. On Saturday, they had a big day here at Ness Historical Society, where a book was launched and also, the opening of the special exhibition.

[Catriona MacLennan – Reporter] The Ness Historical Society was full to capacity on Saturday with lots attending to see the outcome of the Society’s work. It was a partnership between themselves and Acair that resulted in the book and there are many unique points about it.

[Agnes Rennie – Acair] The thing that is special about this project, the book and exhibition, and everything else that happened this year, that it happened in the community. Inside a small community, in Lewis. And, it’s not just a community story we’re getting, we’re getting the people’s story, and we’re getting it in the people’s words, and the words of those who were over and saw.

[Catriona MacLennan – Reporter] Two hundred and sixteen people from the district lost their lives in the First World War. It’s to remember some of those people that the Ness Historical Society have been working on a series of projects this year. And they had an effect on all of the community.

[Anne MacSween – Ness Historical Society] It was interesting when we had the poppies outside. That raised awareness about how many people were lost, and young and old were talking about it. The young ones were asking the old people who the poppy represented, and we can’t understand the effect that loss had. And it’s not only those than were lost but also those that returned home from the war and they were never the same.

[Catriona MacLennan – Reporter] It’s very obvious that the number of people that lost their lives in the war had a big effect on this district and the different villages. But now, with Ness Historical Society’s exhibition being launched, and also the new book, the people of Ness at least have a way of remember those that lost their lives. Catriona MacLennan, BBC An Là, in Ness.
