Breabadairean a’ chlò Hearaich is na beairtean aca

[Angela NicIlleathain – Preseantair] Tha breabadairean a’ chlò Hearaich a’ cur crìoch air bliadhna ann an sunnd mhath. Tha an àireamh bhreabadairean air èiridh, tha clòithtean gu leòr ann agus tha dòchas gu lean seo an ath bhliadhna. Rinnear adhartas cuideachd ann a bhith a’ dèanamh nam beairtean nas fhasa an obrachadh agus ann a bhith a’ faighinn pìosan airson an càradh. Tha tuilleadh aig Aonghas Dòmhnallach.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach – Neach-aithris] Tha mu sheachd fichead breabadair a’ fighe clò a-nise, agus a’ mhargaid a’ coimhead math. Ach tha obair aca fhathast ri dhèanamh, airson dèanamh cinnteach gum bi e furasta dhaibh na beairtean a chàradh agus an cumail a’ dol. Tha iad an dòchas nach bi e fada gus am faigh iad air beairtean a chumail ri na breabadairean aig prìs reusanta.

[Niall MacLeòid – Comann nam Breabadairean] Tha mi an ìre mhath cinnteach gun dèan sinn sin, gu bheil a’ chuid as motha de phìosan againn ach tha sinn a’ cumail ag obair a’ feuchainn ri rudan a lorg. Ach ‘s e lùiginn-sa agus ‘s e an rud a lùigeadh na breabadairean, gum bi a h-uile pìos tha sin anns an aon àite, gum bi fios aca càite an tèid iad is gum faigh iad beairtean agus pìosan ceart agus rudan a sheasas.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach – Neach-aithris] Tha iad cuideachd an dòchas gun tig trèanadh airson na beairtean a chàradh – seòrsa de dhotair beirt. Tha fear dhe na breabadairean fhèin a’ dèanamh tòrr obrach an-dràsta, agus air atharrachaidhean a dhèanamh ris a’ bheairt, ach tha esan am beachd an eilean fhàgail agus tha na breabadairean a-nis a’ feuchainn ri coimhead romhpa.

[Niall MacLeòid – Comann nam Breabadairean] Tha dòchas math againn gum bi sinn a’ dol a dh’fhaighinn cuideachadh is airgead airson duine a thrèanadh, agus gun seall e dhaibh mar a tha e a’ dèanamh nam pìosan a tha e fhèin a’ dèanamh dhan bheairt. Is ‘s dòcha gun cuir sinn sìos e gu duine a tha a’ togail na beirt. Is gun tig e dha na muilnean is gun tig e còmhla ri breabadairean, is gum bi tuigs’ aige air a’ ghnìomhachas bho far a bheil e a’ tòiseachadh gu far a bheil e a’ crìochnachadh.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach – Neach-aithris] Tha iad cuideachd air a bhith a’ feuchainn ri na beairtean a dhèanamh nas èifeachdaiche, agus tha iad a’ dol a thoirt sin gu ìre aig tòiseach na bliadhna.

[Niall MacLeòid – Comann nam Breabadairean] Tha còig de na beairtean gu bhith air an atharrachadh, mar an tè agamsa ann an seo. Agus tha mi an ìre mhath cinnteach, air a chì na daoine iad is mise a’ sùileachadh airgead, cho math ‘s tha iad a’ dol, gun toir iad dhuinn barrachd airgid agus barrachd cuideachaidh airson a thoirt do dhuine sam bith a lùigeadh a’ bheairt aige a dhèanamh.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach – Neach-aithris] Bliadhn’ Ùr ghealltainneach do bhreabadairean a’ chlò. Aonghas Dòmhnallach, BBC An Là, ann an Leòdhas.

Harris Tweed weavers and their looms

[Angela MacLean – Presenter] Harris Tweed weavers are ending the year cheerfully. The number of weavers is rising, there are plenty tweeds and it is hoped this will continue next year. They also made progress in developing the looms to make them easier to work and finding parts to fix them. With more, Angus MacDonald.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] There are around one hundred and forty weavers weaving tweed now, and the market looks good. But they’ve still work to do, to ensure that it’s easy for them to mend looms and to keep them going. They hope it won’t be long until they can give looms to weavers at a reasonable price.

[Neil MacLeod – Harris Tweed Weaver’s Association] I’m almost sure we’ll do that, that we’ve most parts but we keep working trying to source things. But it’s my wish and the wise of the weavers, that all of it will be in the one place, that they’ll know where to go to get looms and the right parts and things that last.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] They also hope that there will be training to mend the looms – like a loom doctor. One of the weavers does a lot of the work just now, and has made changes to the loom, but he’s considering leaving the island and the weavers are now trying to look to the future.

[Neil MacLeod – Harris Tweed Weaver’s Association] We’re hopefuly that we’ll get support and money to train people, and this will show them how to make the parts he makes for the loom. We’ll maybe send him down to the man that makes the looms. And that he’ll go to the mills and come with the weavers, and that he’ll have an understanding of the process from beginning to end.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] They’ve also been trying to make the looms more effective, and they’ll take that to another level at the start of the year.

[Neil MacLeod – Harris Tweed Weaver’s Association] Five of the looms will be changed, like my one here. And I’m pretty sure, when people seem them and I’m expecting money, how well they’re working, that they’ll give us more money and more support for people who wish to make their own loom.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] A promising New Year for Harris Tweed weavers. Angus MacDonald, BBC An Là, in Lewis.
