Riaghailtean ùra airson dìon a chur air maorach

[Iain MacIlleathain – Preseantair] Dh’ aontaich Riaghaltas na h-Alba ri riaghailtean ùra airson dìon a chur air maorach timcheall nan Eilean Siar, as dèidh molaidhean bho bhuidheann iasgach oirthirean nan eilean. Tha iad ag amas air gum bi an t-iasgach maireannach.

Tha na h-iasgairean agus an riaghaltas an dòchas gun toir seo cothrom dhaibh àlachadh mus tèid an glacadh.

[Donnchadh MacAonghais] Tha e an-còmhnaidh duilich a’ chiad pìos de lagh fhaighinn tron t-siostam airson tha aige ri dhol dhan Roinn Eòrpa cuideachd agus tha sinne an dòchas a-nis, tha tòrr mholaidhean eile air a chur chun an Riaghaltais bho thàinig na buidhnean ionadail sin a-steach agus airson gu bheil iad air a’ chiad fhear fhaighinn tron t-siostam tha sinn an dòchas gur e seo toiseach tòiseachaidh agus gum bi iomadach moladh eile a chuireas iad troimhe airson dìon an stoc aig ìre ionadail an seo.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach – Neach-aithris] Agus thèid sùil gheur a chumail air na thathar a’ glacadh airson dèanamh cinnteach nach eile duine briseadh nan riaghailtean.

[Donnchadh MacAonghais] Tha sinn cinnteach, an dòigh a tha an lagh seo air a dhealbh, nach bi daoine briseadh an lagh idir airson ‘s ann airson math nan iasgairean a bhios e, a’ coimhead gur ann gu glèidhteachas agus gnìomhachas a bhios nas prothaidaiche dhaibhsan anns na bliadhnaichean tha romhainn airson coimhead man a dh’obraicheas an lagh tha seo bidh e ciallachadh nach fheum iad uimhir a chlèibh a bhith gan chleachdadh anns na bliadhnaichean tha romhainn airson an aon aireamh a ghlacadh.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach – Neach-aithris] Thèid a-nise coimhead ri stocan eile airson dèanamh cinnteach gun seas iadsan ri leasachadh iasgaich as ùr. Aonghas Dòmhnallach, BBC An ann an Steòrnabhagh.

New rules to protect shellfish

[Iain Maclean – Presenter] The Scottish Government agreed on new rules to protect shellfish around the Western Isles, after recommendations from the Outer Hebrides Inshore Fisheries Group. Their aim is for fishing to be sustainable. From today, shellfish brought to shore must be larger and they hope this will raise the value of what’s caught. Here’s Angus MacDonald.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] Crabs and lobsters now must be larger before they can be sold on the islands. The fishermen and the government hope this will give them an opportunity to breed before they are caught.

[Duncan MacInnes] It’s always difficult to get the first piece of law processed through the system as it has to go to Europe as well. There are lots of other recommendations that have been put to the government since the local group came in and as they have processed the first one we hope that this is the start of it and that they put through many other recommendations to protect the stock at a local level.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] And a close eye will be kept on what’s being caught to make sure no one is breaking the rules.

[Duncan MacInnes] We are certain, with the way this law has been drawn up, that no one will be breaking the law at all as it’s for the good of the fishermen, for conservation and for a more profitable business for them in the years to come. It means they don’t need as many creels in the future to catch the same amount.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] Other stocks will now be looked at to make sure that they will abide to new fishing developments. Angus MacDonald, BBC An Là in Stornoway.
