Fèill Àiteachais Cheann a Deas na Hearadh

[Innes Rothach – Preseantair] Chaidh Fèill Àiteachais Cheann a Deas na Hearadh a chumail anns an t-Òb an-diugh. Gu mì-fhortanach cha robh an t-sìde buileach cho math 's a mhiannaicheadh daoine airson latha samhraidh, ach a dh’aindeoin sin dh'fhaodadh e a bhith air a bhith tòrr nas miosa. Chaidh Ruaraidh Rothach sgrìob chun na fèille.

[Ruaraidh Rothach – Neach-aithris] Chan eil an aimsir buileach cho dona ‘s a bha dùil an seo. Anns an t-Òb agus Fèill Àiteachais an t-Òib a’ dol an-diugh. Tha sluagh mòr air cruinneachadh an seo agus tha iomadach rud ann dhaibh ri dhèanamh agus ri fhaicinn. Agus ‘s e an-diugh an latha a tha an obair tha na daoine a tha cur seo air dòigh gu saor-thoileach a’ tighinn gu buil.

[Ridseard MacIllinnein] Tha an t-uabhas. Faodaidh tu ràdh, bho toiseach na bliadhna a tha sinn a’ tòiseachadh ag ullachadh airson seo agus an uair sin na làithean mu dheireadh tha an t-uabhas air.

[Murchadh MacIlleathain] Tha a’ choimhearsnachd a’ tarraing còmhla, sean is òg agus feadhainn a tha tighinn a-steach bho tìr-mòr, a dh’ fhuireach anns an àite cuideachd, tha iad a’ gabhail spèis mhòr dha na tha a’ tachairt aig an show agus gu dearbha tha iad air obair mhòr a dhèanamh airson latha mar seo a chur air chois.

[Ruaraidh Rothach – Neach-aithris] Bha gu leòr ann a bha tarraing aire sean is òg. Riders of the Storm agus na Drakes of Hazard na measg. Cuideachd bha taisbeanadh aig an RNLI, ‘s iad a’ feuchainn ri fiosrachadh a sgaoileadh mu dheidhinn sàbhailteachd aig muir.

[Coinneach MacLeòid] Tha campaign ùr aig a’ bhàta-teasairginn air a bheil ‘Respect The Water’ an-dràsta agus tha sinn a’ coimhead air, eadar seo agus 2024, na tha de bhàthaithean ann timcheall nan cladaichean a lùghdachadh na leth agus mar phàirt dhen sin tha sinn a’ sgrìobhadh rud ris an canar ‘community lifesaving plans’ airson a h-uile àite. Coimhead air tha tachairt anns na h-àitichean sin airson rudan a chur air chois airson na bàthaithean ‘s na tubaistean a lùghdachadh ann an sin.

[Ruaraidh Rothach – Neach-aithris] A dh’aindeoin rabhaidhean droch shìde air an latha agus cuideachd a’ bhuaidh a thug droch shìde a’ Gheamhraidh air stoc is lusan is measan, bha latha air leth aig Fèill Àiteachais Cheann a Deas na Hearadh.

[Ridseard MacIllinnein] Tha tuireadh ann an-dràsta. Tha sinn uabhasach fortanach mus do dh’ fhosgail an fhèill bha i gairbh agus bha uallach oirnn nach tigeadh na daoine ach a rèir mar a tha mi cluinntinn, bha mise a-bhos aig na beathaichean a’ chuid bu mhotha dhen latha ach a rèir mar a bha mi cluinntinn tha sluagh mòr, mòr a-staigh. Tha sinn toilichte leis an sin agus toilichte airson an t-shluaigh gu bheil latha math ann agus gu bheil iad an seo.

South Harris Agricultural Show

[Innes Munro – Presenter] The South Harris Agricultural Show was held in Leverburgh today. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t quite as good as people would have hoped for on a summer’s day but it could have been much worse. Roddy Munro took a trip to the show.

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] The weather isn’t quite as bad as expected here in Leverburgh with the Leverburgh Agricultural Show taking place today. A large crowd have gathered here and there are many things for them to do and see. And today is the day all the voluntary work done by the organisers pays off.

[Richard Maclennan] Yes, loads. We start preparing say, at the beginning of the year and then in the final days there’s lots on. But you have to begin early, at the start of the year to get things right.

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] This year it was Murdo MacLean, one of the area’s ex-councillors who opened the show.

[Murdo MacLean] The community pull together, old and young along with incomers from the mainland who stay in the area. They all take great pride in what happens at the show and indeed, they’ve carried out a lot of work in setting up a day like this.

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] There was plenty there to attract the attention of the old and young. Amongst them, Riders of the Storm and the Drakes of Hazard. Also, the RNLI had an exhibition in order to try and cascade information about safety at sea.

[Kenny MacLeod] The lifeboat has a new campaign just now called ‘Respect The Water’ and we are looking to, between now and 2024, reduce the number of drownings taking place around the shores by half and as part of this we are writing what we call ‘community lifesaving plans’ for each area. Looking at what is happening in these places to put measures into place to reduce drownings and accidents.

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] Despite the bad weather warnings on the day and also the effect the bad winter weather had on stock and vegetables and fruit, the South Harris Agricultural Show was an excellent day.

[Richard Maclennan] There’s a dry spell at the moment. We’re very fortunate as before the show opened it was wild and we were worried the people wouldn’t come but according to what I’ve heard, I was over at the animals most of the day but according to what I’ve heard there was a big, big crowd in. We are happy with this and happy for the people that it’s been a good day and that they came.
