Fèis ùr na Bliadhn' Ùir'

[Dòmhnall Angaidh Moireasdan – Preseantair] Nise an ath-sheachdain airson a' chiad uair, thèid fèis de cheòl, dannsa agus òrain a chumail mu thimcheall air a’ Bhliadhn' Ùir ann an Uibhist a Deas. 'S e seo a' phròiseact as ùire aig Ceòlas, a tha air a bhith a' leudachadh na h-obrach aca mean air mhean bho thòisich iad anns na 90an. Tha an aithris seo aig Shona NicDhòmhnaill.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Thòisich Ceòlas bho chionn 20 bliadhna. Tha an sgoil shamhraidh airson ceòl, dannsa agus òrain air daoine a thàladh a dh’ Uibhist anns an Iuchar gach bliadhna. Beag air bheag, tha a’ bhuidheann air an obair a leudachadh le clasaichean, cuirmean agus cur-seachadan cultarail eile tron bhliadhna. An ath-sheachdain, bidh fèis ùr ann.

[Liam Alastair Crouse] Tha e a’ leantainn air gur e cruth fèis samhraidh a th’ againne, uill sgoil shamhraidh a th’ againne agus le sin tha clasaichean gu bhith ann agus an uair sin tachartasan air an fheasgar agus an uair sin cèilidhean sònraichte air an oidhche agus leithid sin.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] ‘S ann aig Sgoil agus Talla Coimhearsnachd Dhalabroig a tha na clasaichean agus na cuirmean mòra a’ dol air adhart aig an sgoil shamhraidh. Ach an ath-sheachdain ‘s ann ann an seo, aig Loidse Ghròigearraidh a bhios sin a’ tachairt. Aìte-cruinneachaidh gu math nas lugha.

[Liam Alastair Crouse] ‘S e dìreach toiseach-tòiseachaidh a tha seo. Mar eisimpleir na cèilidhean air an oidhche, feadhainn dhiubh sin chan eil ach 30 tiogaid ann dha tachartasan leithid sin. Mar sin chan eil na cèilidhean gu bhith cho mòr ri cèilidhean aig an sgoil shamhraidh ach thathar an dùil ri co-dhiù deagh hòro-gheallaidh a chur air dòigh.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Chan eil an fhèis ùr seo airson a bhith a’ farpais le gach cuirm eile a tha a’ dol aig an àm seo dhen bhliadhna.

[Liam Alastair Crouse] Air oidhche Chiadain tha cèilidh gu bhith a’ tachairt ann an Talla Staoinibrig agus cha do chuir sinn cèilidh sam bith air dòigh air an oidhche sin agus tha sinn uile gu bhith a’ dol ann, chun an talla sin. Tha sinn dol a chur seiseanan ciùil air dòigh anns na taighean-òsta agus tha sin dol a ghabhail a-steach Loch Baghasdail ‘s Polachar agus Borghadal.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha Fèis Chullaig a’ tòiseachadh Diluain sa tighinn agus a’ crìochnachadh na Bliadhn’ Ùire. Bidh gu leòr a’ dol airson clann agus inbhich gach latha agus oidhche. Shona NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An ann an Uibhist a Deas.

New festival for the New Year

[Donald Morrison] Now, next week, for the first time, a festival of music, dance and song will be held around the New Year in South Uist. This is Ceòlas’ newest project, whose work has been progressively expanding since they started in the 90s. Shona MacDonald has this report.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Ceòlas began 20 years ago. The summer school of music, dance and song has attracted people to Uist each July. Little by little, the group have expanded their work with classes, events and other cultural activities throughout the year. Next week, a new festival will take place.

[Liam Alastair Crouse] It follows the same structure of our summer festival, well our summer school and with that there will be classes followed by events in the afternoon and special ceilidhs in the evening and such like.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The classes and main concerts will take place in Daliburgh School and Community Hall. But next week it’s here, Grogarry Lodge, that it will be taking place. A much smaller meeting place.

[Liam Alastair Crouse] This is just the very beginning. For instance the ceilidhs in the evening, for some there are only 30 tickets available. Therefore, the ceilidhs are not going to be as big as those at the summer school but hopefully it will still be a good celebration.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] This new festival doesn’t want to compete with other events taking place at this time of year.

[Liam Alastair Crouse] On Wednesday night there is a ceilidh taking place in Stoneybridge Hall and we didn’t organise anything for that evening and we’re all going to attend, go to the hall. We’re going to arrange music sessions in the hotels and that will take in Lochboisdale, Polochar and Borrodale.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The Hogmanay Festival begins next Monday and will finish on New Year’s Day. There will be plenty happening for children and adults each day and night. Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là in South Uist.
