Bun-sgoil Uibhist a Tuath a' fosgladh

[Iain Macaonghais – Preseantair] Nise, dh'fhosgail bun-sgoil ùr Uibhist a Tuath sa mhadainn an-diugh agus iad a' cur fàilte air 91 sgoilear. Chosg a' Chomhairle faisg air £6.6m air a’ phròiseact le Riaghaltas na h-Alba a’ cur £2.2m a bharrachd ris. Dhùin an dà bhun-sgoil eile anns an eilean aig toiseach an t-samhraidh, agus tha an obair a’ leantainn air an dàrna earrainn dhen phròiseact a-nis. Tha Shona NicDhòmhnaill ag aithris.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] A’ chiad latha anns an sgoil do chlas a h-aon. Ach ’s e an-diugh a’ chiad latha ann am bun-sgoil ùr Uibhist a Tuath dhan a h-uile duine cloinne a tha dol an sin.

[Sorcha Sìne NicSuain] Uill ’s e sgoil àlainn a th’ ann ’s tha a h-uile sìon innte a dh’fheumas a’ chlann airson am foghlam. ’S tha sinn an dòchas gun còrd an sgoil ris a’ choimhearsnachd ’s gun dèan iad feum dhith.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Thòisich an obair air pròiseact na sgoile - a chosg cha mhòr £9m not - anns a’ Ghiblean 2015. An treas sgoil ùr ann an Uibhist.

[An Comh Ùisdean Robasdan] Bha sinn a’ faicinn sgoiltean ùra timcheall oirnn ann am Baile a’ Mhanaich ’s ann an Dalabrog. Agus tha mi smaointinn gu robh e caran riatanach gum faiceamaid an aon rud - tha sgoil ùr an Uibhist a Tuath leis na h-aon ghoireasan.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha 91 a chlann anns an sgoil ùr. Thàinig cuid dhiubh às an t-seann sgoil aig Ceann a’ Bhàigh, thàinig an còrr à sgoiltean Chàirinis agus Loch nam Madadh. Chaidh iad sin a dhùnadh aig deireadh an Ògmhios.

[Lemuel] Nì e diofar mòr agus tha mi ag ionnsachadh rudan eile agus ann an dòighean nas ùire.

[Lucy] Bha mi toilichte ach bha mi rud beag eagalach cuideachd. ‘S toil leam an sgoil ùr, tha i snog.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] A bharrachd air an togalach a bhith ùr, tha na goireasan teicneòlach as ùire ri fhaighinn ann cuideachd. Ach tha goireas eile ann aig cùl na sgoile a tha a’ chlann uile airson a chleachdadh.

[Eardsaidh] Am playground againn.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] ’S dè mu dheidhinn a tha math?

[Eardsaidh] Na tunnels is na climbing poles againn.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] ‘S e a’ chlann fhèin a dhealbhaich e. Agus thathar an dòchas gun leudaich e am mac-meanmna aig àm cluich.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Gu deireadh an t-seachdain-sa chaidh, ’s ann an seo a chaidh Ionad Chladach Chirceaboist anns an robh an sgoil-àraich. A-nis ’s ann chun na sgoile ùire a thig clann a tha fo aois bun-sgoil.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Sin a’ chiad ìre dhen phròiseact deiseil ach tha obair ri dhèanamh ri taobh na sgoile ùire fhathast.

[Fionnlagh MacAonghais] Tha, tha sinn a’ dol a leagail an t-seann sgoil, an còrr a tha air fhàgail dhith agus an uair sin tha sinn dol a bhith a’ togail raon-cluiche agus tuilleadh parcaidh airson càraichean. Agus tha ceithir mìosan eile againn air a’ chlàr airson crìoch a chur air an obair sin.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Bu chòir dhan obair air fad a bhith deiseil san Fhaoilleach an ath-bhliadhn’. Shona NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An Là ann an Uibhist a Tuath.

North Uist Primary School opens

[Iain Macinnes – Presenter] Now then, the new North Uist primary school opened this morning, welcoming 91 pupils. The council spent almost £6.6m on the project with the Scottish Government funding an extra £2.2m. The other two primary schools on the island closed at the start of the summer and work is now entering into the second stage of the project. Shona MacDonald reports.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The first day of school for primary one. But today is the first day in the new North Uist primary school for every child attending.

[Sarah Jane MacSween] Well it’s a lovely school, it has everything the children require for their education. And we hope the community will enjoy the school and that they will make use of it.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The work on the school project – which cost almost £9m – began in April 2015. The third new school in Uist.

[Cllr Hugh Robertson] We were seeing new schools appearing around us, in Balivanich and in Daliburgh. And I think it was somewhat essential that we could look towards the same thing – there’s now a new school in North Uist with the same facilities.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] There are 91 children in the new school. Some of them came from the old school at Bayhead, the rest came from Carinish and Lochmaddy schools. They closed at the end of June.

[Lemuel] It will make a big difference and I’m learning other things and in new ways.

[Lucy] I was happy but I was a little scared too. I like the new school, it’s nice.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] As well as the building being new, the latest technology is available too. But there’s a new facility at the back of the school that the children all want to use.

[Eardsaidh] Our playground.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] And what’s good about it?

[Eardsaidh] The tunnels and our climbing poles.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The children themselves designed it. And they hope it will broaden their imagination at playtime.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Up until last week, the pre-school was here at the Claddach Kirkibost Centre. Children under primary school age will now attend the new school.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] That’s the first stage of the project complete but there’s work to do yet beside the new school.

[Finlay MacInnes] Yes, we’re going to knock down the old school, what’s left of it and then we’re going to build a pitch and more parking for cars. We have another four months scheduled to complete this work.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] All the work should be complete in January next year. Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là in North Uist.
