Co-labhairt An t-Alltan

[Màiri Rodgers – Preseantair] Tha a’ cho-labhairt bhliadhnail aig Stòrlann, Alltan, a’ tachairt anns An Aghaidh Mhòr an-diugh agus a-màireach. Tha seo a’ toirt cothrom do luchd-foghlaim na Gàidhlig air leasachadh proifeasanta agus gheibh iad sùil air iomairtean teagaisg agus ionnsachaidhean ùra. Tha Seonaidh MacCoinnich ag aithris.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] Thàinig mu 200 neach-foghlaim don tachartas Alltan an-diugh anns an Aghaidh Mhòr agus airson a’ chiad uair bha luchd-obrach nan tràth bhliadhnachan nam pàirt den Alltan fhèin, seach a bhith aig co-labhairt air leth.

[Dòmhnall MacIlleMhoire] Tha sinne gu math trang am-bliadhna, tha sinn ag obair air tarraing ri chèile co-labhairt a tha a’ gabhail a-steach bho 0 suas gu 18. ’S tha mi smaoineachadh gur e ceum ùr a th’ ann dhuinn a bhith tarraing a h-uile càil fon aon mhullach mar gum biodh. Agus tha e uabhasach math airson a h-uile duine a tha an sàs ann am foghlam Gàidhlig, eadar gur ann a’ sruthadh a-steach ann am foghlam Gàidhlig no a’ cur crìoch air an fhoghlam mus tig iad dha na h-oilthighean agus àitichean eile, tha iadsan, bidh iad an làthair an seo.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] Tha 23 bùithtean-obrach is òraidean ri fhaighinn thairis an dà latha agus tha pàirt mòr ann ga teicneòlas ùr a chleachdadh airson Gàidhlig a bhrosnachadh.

[Mona Wilson] Tha mi smaoineachadh, ’s e an rathad air adhart a bhith cleachdadh teicneòlas, a’ cleachdadh teicneòlas ann an dòighean cruthachail cuideachd a thaobh a bhith teagaisg eadar sgoiltean, a bhith teagaisg oileanaich aig astar agus trèanadh tidsearan aig astar. Tha mi smaoineachadh mar a thuirt thu tha an saoghal air atharrachadh gu mòr agus feumaidh sinn a bhith mothachail air an sin agus a bhith caran cleabhair a thaobh mar a tha sinn a’ cleachdadh an teicneòlais agus tha mi smaoineachadh, rudan mar eSgoil, sin an rathad air adhart tha mi smaoineachadh.

[Seonaidh MacCòinnich – Neach-aithris] Agus cha b’ ann dìreach à Alba a bhathas air tighinn. Am-bliadhna thàinig trì tidsearan à Cheap Breatainn ann an Canada. Dè an t-suidheachadh a th’ ann le Gàidhlig sna sgoiltean an sin?

[Joanna Nic An t-Saoir] Uill tha sinn dìreach a’ dèanamh Gàidhlig mar chuspair anns an sgoil Bheurla fhios agad. So, ’s urrainn dhan chloinn a thaghadh an àite Frangais nuair a tha iad anns a’ bhun-sgoil agus anns an àrd-sgoil ’s e dìreach cuspair, ma-thà ùine anns a’ chlàr-ama aca ’s urrainn dhaibh a dhèanamh.

[Bernard Camshron] Agus tha na h-àireamhan a’ dol suas fad na h-ùine. Tha barrachd chothroman aca san latha an-diugh ach chan eil an uiread de thidsearan deiseil airson Gàidhlig a theagaisg. B’ urrainn barrachd a bhith ann ach chan eil sinn deiseil airson sin dh’ fhaoidhte fhathast.

[Seonaidh MacCòinnich – Neach-aithris] Uill sin a’ chiad latha seachad. Barrachd bùithtean-obrach agus òraidean a-màireach agus na bi fadalach no gheibh thu detention. Seonaidh MacCoinnich, BBC An Là, An Aghaidh Mhòir.

An t-Alltan conference

[Màiri Rodgers – Presenter] Stòrlann’s annual conference, Alltan, is taking place in Aviemore today and tomorrow. It gives Gaelic educationalists an opportunity to develop professionally and they will get to see teaching initiatives and new learning methods. Seonaidh MacKenzie reports.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] Around 200 educationalists came to the Alltan event today in Aviemore and for the first time the early years workers were part of Alltan itself, instead of being at a separate conference.

[Donald Morrison] We’re very busy this year, we’re working on putting together a conference that covers from ages 0 up to 18. I think this is a new step for us, drawing everything in under one roof as it were. And it’s very beneficial to everyone involved in Gaelic education, from those starting out in Gaelic education to those finishing their education before heading to universities and other places. They’ll all be present here.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] There are 23 workshops and lectures on offer over the two days and playing a major role is the use of new technology to promote Gaelic.

[Mona Wilson] I think the way forward is to use technology, using it in creative ways with regards to teaching between schools, teaching students through distance learning and training teachers through distance learning. I think, as you said, that the world has changed greatly and we must be aware of this and be clever with how we use the technology and I think that things like eSgoil are the way forward.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] And they didn’t just come from Scotland either. This year three teachers came from Cape Breton in Canada. What is the situation like with Gaelic in schools over there?

[Joanna MacIntyre] Well we just do Gaelic as a subject in the mainstream English school, you know. So, the children can choose it instead of French when they are in primary school and in high school it’s a subject and if there’s space in their timetable they can do it.

[Bernard Cameron] And the numbers are going up all the time. They have more opportunities today but there aren’t as many teachers ready to teach Gaelic. There could be more but we’re perhaps not ready for that yet.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] Well that’s the first day over. More workshop and lectures tomorrow and don’t be late or you’ll get detention. Seonaidh MacKenzie, BBC An Là, Aviemore.

Chithear an tar-sgrìobhadh Gàidhlig anns a’ chiad dol a-mach. However, you can see a translation of the transcript by selecting the English or Gaelic and English tabs.

Key vocabulary is also provided, with accompanying Gaelic audio. This is a selected from the vocabulary contained in the news report and may include a selection of place names, news terminology, useful colloquialisms and phrases.
