Dè am beachd a th’ aig Jamie mun chainb?

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Ruairidh Alasdair] Tha mi a’ dol a bhruidhinn a-nis ri mo charaid Jamie, fear a tha gu math ceòlmhor gu dearbha. Chì sinn dè th’ aigesan ri ràdh mu ‘hoochimaroochie’.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] Dè a-nis a chanas tu ri daoine a bhios a’ coimhead air eisimpleirean coltach ri Iapan neo Korea a Deas far a bheil na laghan air leth cruaidh agus aig an aon àm tha coltas gu bheil ìre slàinte an t-sluaigh gu math àrd cuideachd aig an aon àm?

[Jamie] Uill, ‘s e deagh argamaid a th’ann, feumaidh mi sin a ràdh an toiseach. Ach, sna àitichean mar sin tha iad gu tur eadar-dhealaichte na tha an suidheachadh againn an seo. Tha an riaghaltas aca an sin... chan eil iad a’ smocadh an t-uabhas no chan eil an cultar ann mun cuairt an deoch-làidir aca sin mar a tha againn an seo. So chan eil mi builleach cinnteach an e rud math a th’ ann a bhith a’ dèanamh coltas eatarra a thaobh a’ chuspair seo.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] A bheil thu a’ smaointinn gu bheil argamaid ann, ma bhios daoine a’ tòiseachadh le cainb, gum bi iad an uair sin a’ dol suas ìre mar ‘s gum biodh agus a’ tòiseachadh le drugaichean a tha beagan nas cruaidhe agus beagan nas cunnartaiche. A bheil an leithid rud ann?

[Jamie] Uill, an-dràsta, tha thu a’ ceannach an cainb agad bho dealers. Tha iadsan a’ dèanamh an airgead aca bho bhith a’ reic drugaichean agus is cinnteach gum bi drugaichean nas miosa aca an sin den leithid Class As. Agus ma tha thusa a’ ceannach an cainb agadsa bhon duine seo, dè tha ri ràdh... dè tha gad sgur a bhith a’ ceannach dad, rudeigin eile mar sin?

[Ruairidh Alasdair] A bheil thu a’ smaointinn gu bheil puing aid cuid den an fheadhainn a tha seo ‘s dòcha an aghaidh atharrachadh an lagh a tha seo? Bidh iad ag ràdh mar eisimpleir gum bi na h-àireamh de dhaoine anns an eucoir agus rudan mar sin ag èiridh ‘s a’ dol suas. ‘S e sin argamaid a tha air a chur air adhart do chuid eile, a bheil thu ag aontachadh leis a sin neo a bheil thu an aghaidh sin?

[Jamie] Uill, mar a tha ‘s a h-uile argamaid, tha deagh phuingean air an dà thaobh. Tha mi gu ìre ag aontachadh ris na daoine a tha airson a‘ chasg fhathast a bhith ann, agus tha fhios againn gu bheil cainb, tha trioblaidean ann leis. Chan eil e uabhasach math airson cuid de dhaoine a thaobh slàinte an eanchainn aca.

What is Jamie’s opinion about cannabis?

English Beurla

[Ruairidh Alasdair] I’m going to speak to my friend Jamie a very musical person for sure. We’ll see what he has to say about ‘hoochimaroochie’.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] What do you say to the people who look at examples like Japan or South Korea where there are really strict laws and it seems that at the same time the standard of health in the population is very high?

[Jamie] Well, it’s a good argument, I have to say, at the start However, people in these places are completely different to how we are here. Their government… they don’t smoke as much and they don’t have a drinking culture like we do here. So, I’m not completely sure that it’s a good thing to be making that comparison for this subject.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] Do you think that there’s an argument that if people begin with cannabis, that they then kind of move up a level and begin taking stronger and more dangerous drugs? Does this happen?

[Jamie] Well, currently, you buy cannabis from dealers. They make money from selling drugs and will definitely have worse drugs that are Class As. And if you buy cannabis from these dealers, who is to say… what is to stop you buying something like this?

[Ruairidh Alasdair] Do you think that some of these people have a point, against changing this law? They say, for example, that the number of people in crime and things like that are rising and going up.

[Jamie] Well, as in every argument, there are good points on both sides. I do agree to an extent with the people that want to preserve the ban, and it is known that there are problems with cannabis. It’s not good for some people’s mental health.
