Strì airson sgoil Ghàidhlig ann am Port Rìgh

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Iain MacIlleathain – Preseantair] Tha pàrantan a tha a’ strì airson sgoil Ghàidhlig fa leth ann am Port Rìgh ag ràdh gu bheil eagal orra nach fhaigh am pròiseact taic phoilitigeach ‘s e dol a chosg mòran a bharrachd na bha dùil. Tha Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd a’ moladh a thogail air làrach ostail nan caileagan. Thuirt fear de chomhairlichean an eilein gu bheil e misneachail gum faighear taic nam ball agus an t-ionmhas a tha a dhìth. Seo Eilidh NicLeòid.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Tha Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd a’ gealltainn bhun-sgoil Ghàidhlig ùr a thogail. Thagh iad làrach anns a’ Ghearastan nach do chòrd ri pàrantan; tha làrach Phort Rìgh a cheart cho connspaideach. Fhuair sgrùdadh nach biodh an t-seann ostail freagarrach; ‘s e làrach air iomall a’ bhaile a b’ fheàrr le luchd-iomairt, ach chan fhaigh iadsan an toil a bharrachd. Tha a’ Chomhairle a-nis air taghadh a dhèanamh air an làrach as fheàrr airson bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh agus ‘s e seo an t-àite, làrach Ostail Mairead Charnegie air iomall a’ bhaile. Ach tha pàrantan a th’ air a bhith dèanamh strì airson na bun-sgoile ag ràdh gum biodh na tha fa-near dhan Chomhairle tuilleadh is cosgail agus tha eagal orra gun caill iad taic phoilitigeach.

[Art MacCarmaig – Comhairle nam Pàrant] Leis gu bheil an ostail an lùib seo cuideachd, tha sin a’ ciallachadh gu bheil am pròiseact seo a’ dol a chosg fada, fada a bharrachd, rudeigin coltach ri trì millean deug agus tha ceist mhòr ann am biodh rùn phoilitigeach taobh a-staigh na comhairle airson an t-airgead a bharrachd a tha a dhìth a lorg airson seo a dhèanamh.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] A dh’aindeoin na chosgas i, tha comhairlichean ionadail làidir dhen bheachd gur e seo an t-àite as fheàrr agus tha iad misneachail gum faigh iad an t-ionmhas a tha a dhìth.

[Hamish Friseal – Comhairliche] Tha feum air ostail ann am Port Rìgh agus tha taic pròiseact air taobh a-staigh na comhairle; tha riaghaltas aig a’ chomhairle mhòr ag iarraidh seo agus na comhairlichean anns an Eilean Sgitheanach ag iarraidh seo a dhol air adhart agus mar sin, na ceumannan a tha sinn a’ gabhail an-dràsta, chanadh sinn gur e clach-mhìle a tha sin ann a bhith a’ dol air adhart agus a bhith a’ faighinn seo air a chur air bhonn gu math sgiobalta.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Clach-mhìle do chuid, ach cnap-starra ùr do na pàrantan a th’ air a bhith feitheamh ceithir bliadhna mar-thà.

[Art MacCarmaig – Comhairle nam Pàrant] Tha sin a’ ciallachadh gu bheil aca ris an ostail a dhèanamh an toiseach, gus am bi e comasach dhan chomhairle a’ chlann a ghluasad a-mach às an ostail far a bheil iad an-dràsta agus an làrach fhaighinn an uair sin airson na sgoile. Ge bith a thachras tha dàil eile gu bhith ann agus tha sinn gu math draghail mu dheidhinn sin, chun na h-ìre far a bheil sinn ag iarraidh air a’ chomhairle coimhead ri làraichean eile a-rithist. Ach, cha robh iad deònach sin a dhèanamh.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Cha do lìbhrig a’ chiad phlana Gàidhlig an sgoil; an tig i ro dheireadh an dàrna plana cànain gus am faigh a’ chomhairle aodann sona?

[Hamish Friseal – Comhairliche] Bu thoil leamsa sgoil ùr fhaicinn ann an sin ann am bliadhna no san bhliadhna eile a tha romhainn agus bhithinn an dòchas, ‘s dòcha, gun tachradh sin. Ach, aig an ìre a tha seo, chan urrainn dhuinn ceann-là a chur air an sin, ach bidh sinn an dòchas nach bi e ann an àm ro fhada agus nach bi e mar a tha daoine a’ smaoineachadh suas gu 2020.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Beachdaichidh comhairlichean Diciadain air an dòigh as fheàrr an làrach a leasachadh. Beachdaichidh an làn chomhairle anns a’ Ghearran air am bu chòir dha a bhith anns a’ phlana chalpa, a’ toirt a’ chiad bhun-sgoil Ghàidhlig fa leth anns an Eilean Sgitheanach ceum nas fhaisge. Eilidh NicLeòid, BBC An Là, Port Rìgh.

A campaign for a Gaelic school in Portree

English Beurla

[Iain MacLean – Presenter] Parents fighting for a separate Gaelic school in Portree say they are afraid that the project will not receive political backing as it’s going to cost a great deal more than was first expected. Highland Council has recommended that it is built on the site of the ladies’ school hostel. One island councillor has said that he is hopeful that the members’ backing and the required funding will be obtained.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] Highland Council has promised that two new Gaelic primary schools will be built. They chose a site in Fort William which parents were unhappy with; the Portree is site is equally contentious. Research has found that the old hostel is unsuitable; campaigners would prefer a site on the town’s outskirts, but their wish will not be granted either. The Council has now selected which site is the most suitable for Portree’s Gaelic primary school and this is it, the site of the Margaret Carnegie Hostel on the town’s outskirts. However, parents who have been fighting for the school have stated that the council’s proposals are overly-expensive and they are afraid that they will lose the political backing.

[Arthur Cormack – Parent Council] As the hostel is included as well, that means that the project is going to cost much, much more, something in the region of thirteen million and there’s a very big question regarding the political will within the council to find the additional money required to complete this project.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] Despite the cost involved, local councillors are certain that this is the best site and are confident that they can obtain the required funding.

[Hamish Fraser – Councillor] There’s a need for a hostel in Portree and project support is available within the council; the full council is in favour of this and councillors on the Isle of Skye are in favour of this going ahead and therefore, we believe that the steps being taken now are a milestone in moving forward and in getting this initiated relatively quickly.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] A milestone for some, but a new obstacle for parents who have already been waiting for four years.

[Arthur Cormack – Parent Council] This means that they will have to build the hostel first, to allow the council to move the children out of the hostel they are currently in and obtain the site for the school. Whatever happens there’s going to be a further delay and we are quite concerned about that, to the extent that we would like the council to look at alternative sites again. However, they were not willing to do so.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] The first language plan did not deliver the school; will it come before the completion of the second language plan to keep councillors smiling?

[Hamish Fraser – Councillor] I would like to see a school there in a year or within the next two years and I would hope, perhaps, that that will happen. However, at this stage, we cannot give an exact date, but we would hope that it will be relatively soon and not, as people think, as far away as 2020.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] On Wednesday, councillors will consider the best ways to develop the site. The full council will, in February, consider whether this should be included in the Capital Plan, bringing the first Gaelic primary school on the Isle of Skye a step closer.
