Leasachadh air an Eaglais Shaor ann an Dòrnach

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Màiri Rodgers - Preseantair] Nis, thòisich iomairt airson ceithir cheud mìle not a thogail airson leasachadh a dhèanamh air an Eaglais Shaor ann an Dòrnach. Thogadh an Eaglais goirid às-dèidh an sgaraidh ann an ochd ceud deug fhichead ‘s a trì. Agus, tha i a-nis feumach air an t-uabhas de dh’obair. O thoiseach na h-ath mhìos, bidh an coitheanal ag adhradh ann an Acadamaidh Dhòrnaich gus am bi an ath phàirt den leasachadh deiseil aig deireadh na bliadhna. Tha an aithris seo aig Pàdraig MacAmhlaigh.

[Pàdraig MacAmhlaigh – Neach-aithris] Tha na ballachan cho seasmhach ‘s a bha iad nuair a chaidh an eaglais a thogail o chionn faisg air cheud bliadhna. ‘S ann thàinig an t-atharrachadh air an t-saoghal a-muigh agus feumaidh an eaglais atharrachadh a rèir sin.

[Pàdraig MacAmhlaigh – Neach-aithris] Seo ceist a tha mu choinneamh choitheanalan thall ‘s a- bhos san latha a th’ ann. Tha na toglaichean sean, tha na goireasan ‘s an uidheamachd a th’ annta sean agus feumach air ùrachadh. Ach tha a h-uile càil a tha sin a’ dol a chosg mòran airgid.

[Pàdraig MacAmhlaigh – Neach-aithris] Tha mu cheithir fichead neach-adhraidh an seo air an t-Sàbaid ann an togalach a ghabhas grunn cheudan. Bidh na seirbheisean a’ gluasad suas an staidhre.

[An t-Urr Donnchadh MacLeòid] Tha làr gu bhith ann, shìos an staidhre, tha rùm airson dìreach cur-seachadan eadar-dhealaichte, multipurpose room, tha sinn a’ dol a dhèanamh cidsin tòrr nas motha na th’ againne an-dràsta. Tha sinn a’ dol a dhèanamh àite far am faod daoine a bhith cruinneachadh dìreach airson cur seachad tìde còmhla ri chèile an-dèidh na seirbheis is mar sin air adhart. Tha sin a’ dol a dhèanamh rumannan far am faod a’ choimhearsnachd a bhith tighinn airson rudan eadar-dhealaichte. 'S dòcha gum bi is cofaidh gan toirt seachad an-asgaidh, ‘s dòcha do dhaoine, ma tha iad airson a’ tighinn a-steach?

[Pàdraig MacAmhlaigh – Neach-aithris] Tha dreach na h-aoise an-diugh air pàirtean den eaglais, tha fiù ‘s an làr na chunnart.

[Pàdraig MacAmhlaigh – Neach-aithris] Duine sam bith a’ tighinn a-steach dhan togalach, chì iad dìreach nach eil an làr a tha seo còmhnard, nach eil e rèidh. Agus tha feadhainn air a bhith tuiteam ‘s dòcha gan goirteachadh fhèin, tha sinn dìreach mothachail air cho cunnartach ‘s a tha e agus cho feumail ‘s a bhios e a chur air an aon level air fad.

[Pàdraig MacAmhlaigh – Neach-aithris] Tha fiodh air leth eireachdail agus luachmhor an seo. Tha margaid ann air a shon agus bheir sin airgead glè fheumail a-steach

[Mark Robinson] We’re fortunate in the day of the internet in that we can advertise online and locally as well and we were greatly encouraged that there was a lot of local people, local interest in re-using this lovely timber in a number of different places in new builds and in existing homes.

[Pàdraig MacAmhlaigh – Neach-aithris] Ach am bi an t-sìth ann? Tha buaireadh buailteach nochdadh an lùib atharrachaidh air eaglaisean.

[An t-Urr Donnchadh MacLeòid] Nuair a thòisich leasachaidhean anns a’ choitheanal-sa an tòiseach, chan eil teagamh sam bith, bha tomhas de dh’easaontachd ann aig an àm sin. Ach, chan eil a-nis. Tha cùisean air gluasad air adhart, agus tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil a h-uile duine a’ faicinn gum feumar an obair a chrìochnachadh. Bhon a chaidh tòiseachadh air, feumar a chrìochnachadh, agus, cho fad ‘s as aithne dhomh, tha an coitheanal Gu h-aon ghuthach air cùl an leasachaidh a tha seo a tha sinn a’ dol a dhèanamh an-dràsta.

[Pàdraig MacAmhlaigh – Neach-aithris] Bidh an eaglais a’ dùnadh aig toiseach na h-ath mhìos ‘s an coitheanal ag adhradh anns an àrd-sgoil gus am fosglaidh i a-rithist aig deireadh na bliadhna. Pàdraig MacAmhlaigh, BBC An Là, Dornoch.

Development of the Free Church in Dornoch

English Beurla

[Màiri Rodgers - Presenter] Now, a campaign has started to raise four hundred thousand pounds to restore the Dornoch Free Church. The church was built a short time after the split in eighteen forty three (1843). And, she now needs lots of work. From the start of next month, the congregation will worship in Dornoch Academy until the next part of the development is complete at the end of the year.

[Peter MacAulay - Reporter] The walls are as sturdy as they were when the church was built nearly two hundred years ago. The change has come from the outside world and the church must adapt to accordingly.

[Peter MacAulay - Reporter] The query that faces congregations far and wide today; the buildings are old, the resources and the machinery in them are old and needs a renewal. But all of that is going to cost a lot of money.

[Peter MacAulay - Reporter] There are about forty worshippers here on the Sabbath in a building in a building that can hold hundreds. The services will move up the stairs.

[Rev. Duncan MacLeod] There will be two floors. Downstairs, there will be room for different pursuits, multipurpose room, we are going to make a much bigger kitchen than what we have just now. We are going to make space where people can gather just to pass time together after the service, and that sort of thing. We are going to make rooms where the community can come together for different things. Maybe we’ll give out free tea and coffee, maybe to people, if they come in.

[Peter MacAulay - Reporter] The appearance of age can be seen on parts of the church today, even the floor is dangerous.

[Peter MacAulay - Reporter] Anyone who comes in to the building, they’ll see that this floor is not level, it’s not flat. And there are some who have fallen, maybe they’ve hurt themselves, we are just aware of how dangerous it is and how crucial it is to have one level.

[Peter MacAulay - Reporter] The wood is very beautiful and precious here. There is a market for it and this will bring in useful money.

[Mark Robinson] We’re fortunate in the day of the internet in that we can advertise online and locally as well and we were greatly encouraged that there was a lot of local people, local interest in re-using this lovely timber in a number of different places in new builds and in existing homes.

[Peter MacAulay - Reporter] But will there be peace? There is disquiet about what is happening in churches.

[Rev. Duncan MacLeod] When the developments started, in the congregation, there was no doubt, there was a measure of disagreement at that time. But not now. Things have moved on, I think everyone sees that the work must finish. As it has started, it must finish, and as far as I know, the congregation speak with one voice which is behind the development that is currently happening.

[Peter MacAulay - Reporter] The church is closing at the start of the next month and the congregation will worship in the secondary school until it opens again at the end of the year. Peter MacAulay, BBC An Là, Dornoch.
