Àireamh nan capall-coille air crìonadh

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Iain MacAonghais –Preseantair] Nise, bu chòir do thaghan na h-Alba a bhith air an glacadh agus a bhith air an cumail an grèim fad an t-samhraidh co-dhiù airson taic a thoirt do dh’ àireamhan capaill-coille. Sin a rèir aon bhuidheann, Urras Glèidhteachaidh Geamaireachd agus Fiadh-bheatha na h-Alba. Tha na figearan as ùire a’ sealltainn gu bheil àireamh nan capall-coille air crìonadh, le dìreach mu mhìle is cheud dhiubh air fhàgail ann an Alba. Ach, tha buidheann eile air càineadh a dhèanamh air na planaichean. Le tuilleadh, seo Calum MacIlleathain.

[Calum MacIlleathain] ‘S iad aon de na beathaichean agus aon de na h-eòin as doirbhe a lorg ann an coilltean na h-Alba, an taghan agus an capall-coille, ach tha Urras Glèidhteachaidh Geamaireachd agus Fiadh-bheatha na h-Alba ag iarraidh an taghan a ghlacadh anns a’ Ghiblean agus a’ leigeil ma sgaoil a-rithist anns an Lùnastal. Tha seo gus stad a chur air an taghan, capall-coille òg agus na h-uighean ithe.

[Calum MacIlleathain] Ged a tha an taghan agus an capall-coille air an dìon fo lagh. Tha an àireamh de thaghan air fàs anns na bliadhnaichean mu dheireadh agus an àireamh de chapaill-choille air lùghdachadh. ‘s iad Dualchas Nàdair na h-Alba a tha os cionn ceadan airson an obair a dhèanamh.

[Emily Edwards] Tha beathaichean eile cuideachd a tha uaireannan a’ dèanamh cron orra rudan mar sionnaich agus feannagan agus cuideachd rud a tha ‘s dòcha caran annasach, bidh iad uaireannan a’ bualadh air feansaichean agus gam marbhadh fhèin. Chan eil an taghan ach mar phàirt den sgeulachd seo agus aig an ìre-sa, co-dhiù, tha sin às aonais fianais gu leòr gu a bhith ann an dha-rìribh cinnteach a’ bhuaidh a tha aig na taghan air a’ chapall-choille.

[Calum MacIlleathain] Tha mu mhìle is cheud eun ann a-nis. Sin sìos bho fhichead mìle anns na seachadan. Dh’ aontaich an riaghaltas ri plana bith-iomadach ann an naoi ceud deug naochad ‘s a’ còig a tha ag amas air an àireamh de chapaill-choille fhàs gu mu dhà mhìle eun ron bhliadhna mhìle is fichead. Ach, sheall sgrùdadh gu bheil cho beag ri còig capaill-coille inbheach anns Na Trosaichean an-dràsta agus a’ mhòr-chuid a’ fuireach ann am Pàirc Nàiseanta a’ Mhonaidh Ruaidh.

[Emily Edwards] Tha tòrr cheistean ann a thaobh an sgeama a tha seo. Rudan mar, ciamar a bhiodh na taghain air an glacadh agus càite am biodh iad air an cumail? Ach tha cuideachd ceist ann a thaobh nam biodh iad air an cumail ann am braighdeanas, no ann an captivity, fad beagan mhìosan. Am biodh e doirbh dhaibh a dhol air ais dhan àrainn nàdarra aca mar gum biodh. Is mar sin, nam biodh iarrtas ann airson an sgeama seo, tha tòrr cheistean ann a dh’ fheumadh a bhith air am freagairt ro-làimh.

[Calum MacIlleathain] Ged nach dh’ fhuair mi fhèin lorg air an taghan an-diugh. ‘s e sin a dh’ fheumas a’ bhuidheann seo a dhèanamh ma thèid an sgeama seo air adhart. Calum MacIlleathain, BBC An Là, Inbhir Nis.

The number of the Capercaillies has decreased

English Beurla

[Iain MacInnes – Presenter] Now the pinemartins of Scotland should be caught and kept in captivity the whole summer to help the numbers of capercaillie. That is according to one group, the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust of Scotland. The newest figures show that the numbers of capercaillie are declining, with about one thousand, two hundred left in Scotland. But another group have criticised the plans. With more, here’s Calum MacLean.

[Calum MacLean] One of the animals and one of the birds which are the hardest to find in the forests of Scotland, the pinemartin and the capercaillie, but the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust of Scotland want the pinemartins to be caught in April and let loose again in August. This is to stop the pinemartin from eating the capercaillie and their eggs.

[Calum MacLean] Although the pinemartin and capercaillie are protected by law. The number of pinemartins have grown in the past few years and the number of capercaillie have fallen. Scottish Natural Heritage are in charge of licences for the work.

[Emily Edwards] Other animals too sometimes harm them, things like foxes and crows and also they do things that are maybe a bit strange, they sometimes hit themselves off fences and kill themselves. The pinemartin is only part of the story at this stage, and anyway we don’t have enough evidence to be sure what the effect is of the pinemartin on the capercaillie.

[Calum MacLean] There are about one thousand, two hundred birds left. That is down from twenty thousand in the seventies. The government set up a biodiversity plan in 1995 that aims to increase the numbers of capercaillie to about two thousand before the year 2020. But, an investigation showed that there are as few as five adult capercaillie in the Trossachs now and most of them stay in the Cairngorms’ National Park.

[Emily Edwards] There are many questions about this scheme. Things like, how will the pinemartins be caught and where will they be kept? But also there is a question about whether they will be kept in captivity for a few months. And as such, if there was demand for this scheme, there are many questions that have to be answered beforehand.

[Calum MacLean] I could not find the pinemartin today. That is what this group have to do if they want to bring this scheme forward. Calum MacLean, BBC AN Là, Inverness.
