Geamaichean Uibhist a Deas

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Iain Macaonghais - Preseantair] Nise, chan ann an Glaschu a-mhàin a tha geamaichean a’ dol. Tha fìor dheagh latha air a bhith aca ann an Uibhist far an robh geamaichean Uibhist a Deas a’ dol agus far an robh a’ ghrian a’ deàrrsadh cuideachd. Ag aithris à Uibhist seo an tè-naidheachd againn Shona NicDhòmhnaill.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tapadh leat Iain. Tha sinne air an a chur seachad aig geamaichean Uibhist a Deas, far an robh a’ ghrian a’ deàrrsadh air pìobairean, dannsairean agus na thàinig a choimhead na bha dol. Seo mar a chaidh an latha.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Bho chiad char sa mhadainn bha a’ ghrian a’ deàrrsadh air machaire Àisgearnais agus nochd na ceudan aig geamaichean Uibhist a Deas. Mar as trice, bidh gu leòr a’ tighinn airson nam farpaisean pìobaireachd agus dannsa. Ach bha beagan de dh’atharrachadh air sin am-bliadhna.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach] Tha an latha a’ dol glè mhath, mar a chì thu tha deagh shìde againn, tha sinn a’ dol air aghaidh gu math, tha iad gann de phìobairean am-bliadhna dìreach mar as àbhaist dhuinn ach tha barrachd againn anns na cuir-seachadan eile mar caitheamh an ùird agus putadh na cloiche, tha sin suas gu math am-bliadhna seach mar as àbhaist dha.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha an aimsir a’ cuideachadh daoine a tharraing gu na geamaichean, ach tha e cudromach cuideachd dhaibhsan a tha dannsa agus a’ pìobaireachd.

[Isabel Morrison] Uill diofar mòr agus cuideachd airson nan dannsairean, tha e cumail nan casan aca blàth agus tha mi cinnteach na pìobairean, nan corragan aca blàth agus tha sin a’ dèanamh diofar mòr air ciamar a thèid dhaibh.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] A bharrachd air muinntir an àite fhèin tha grunn a’ gabhail cuairt a dh’Uibhist a dh’aona ghnothaich airson ‘s gum faigh iad chun nan geamaichean.

[Catriona Nic a’ Phì] ‘S bidh sinn a’ tighinn a h-uile bliadhna airson pàirt a ghabhail anns na geamaichean, Seumas anns a’ phìobaireachd, an dithis chloinne agam air a’ phìob, air an fheadan nuair a bha iad na b’ òige agus cuideachd bidh iad a’ ruith cuideachd, cha bhi sinn a’ call nan geamaichean latha sam bith feumaidh mi ràdh, no bliadhna sam bith co-dhiù.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Bha barrachd dhaoine ann am farpaisean nan lùth-chleasan agus caitheamh an ùird am-bliadhna agus bha na dannsairean agus na pìobairean air am moladh.

[Natalie Matheson] Thuirt daoine gu robh iad ag iarraidh dannsa a chionn ‘s gu robh iad ag iarraidh tighinn an seo agus dannsa, tha sin math airson an dannsa agus nan geamannan seo cuideachd

[Catriona Nic a’ Phì] Feumaidh mi ràdh tha gu leòr air a bhith ann am measg na h-òigridh agus tha iad aig inbhe dìreach math dha-rìribh feumaidh mi ràdh am-bliadhna ‘s tha iad air a bhith math dha-rìribh, chòrd e rium gu mòr.

The South Uist games

English Beurla

[Iain Macinnes – Presenter] Now, it’s not only in Glasgow that the games are taking place. They’ve had a very good day in Uist where the South Uist games were taking place and where the sun was shining also. Reporting from Uist here is our news correspondent Shona MacDonald.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Thank you Iain. We have spent the day at the South Uist games, where the sun was shining on pipers, dancers and all those who came to see what was going on. Here is how the day went.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] From first thing in the morning the sun was shining on Askernish machair and hundreds of people attended the South Uist Games. Usually, plenty come for the piping and dancing competitions, but there was a slight change this year.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] The day is going rather well, as you can see we have good weather and we’re progressing well, there is a shortage of pipers this year, compared to normal but we have more in the other events such as the hammer throw and shot putt, these events are up quite a bit this year in comparison to usual.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The weather has helped attract people to the games, but it is also important to those dancing and piping.

[Isabel Morrison] Well, it makes a big difference and also for the dancers, it keeps their feet warm and I’m sure for the pipers, it keeps their fingers warm and that makes a big difference as to how they will get on.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] As well as locals there are plenty who visit Uist purposely to attend the games.

[Catriona MacPhee] We come every year to take part in the games, Seumas in the piping, both my children on the pipes, on the chanter when they were younger and they run too. We never once miss games day I must say, not one year either.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] There were more people in the athletics and hammer throw this year and the dancers and pipers were praised.

[Natalie Matheson] People said they wanted to dance and come here to dance, that’s good for the dancing and these games too.

[Catriona MacPhee] I have to say that there has been plenty going on for the young people and the standard has been excellent this year I must admit and the games have been excellent, I’ve really enjoyed them.
