Margaidh ùr ann an Griomasaigh

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Iain MacAonghais – Preseantair] Nise, tòisichidh margaidh ùr ann an Griomasaigh ann an Uibhist a-màireach. Bidh biadh agus stuthan ionadail eile gan reic ann gach Diciadain bho seo a-mach. ’S ann anns an t-seann Eaglais Shaor a bhios a’ mhargaidh, cheannaich a’ choimhearsnachd an togalach sin an-uiridh. Chaidh an tè-naidheachd againn ann an Uibhist, Shona NicDhòmhnaill a dh’ fhaicinn cuid de na bhios ri fhaotainn ann.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Aig aon àm bha grunn bhùithtean air Eilean Ghriomasaigh. Dh’ atharraich sin, ach a-nis tha buidheann coimhearsnachd ag amas air a’ chuibhle sin a thionndadh mun cuairt.

[Ealasaid NicAoidh] ’S e rud ùr a tha sinn a’ tòiseachadh. Tha sinn air airgead fhaighinn airson margaidh a thòiseachadh son bliadhna agus bidh tòrr ghnothaichean againn so tha sinn an dòchas gun tig daoine a-mach. Bidh bèicearachd againn, tha muinntir Griomasaigh tha sinn famous son na bèicearachd againn agus tha a h-uile duine an-còmhnaidh gar moladh cho math ‘s a tha sinn uile air bèicearachd. Bidh arts & crafts againn, bidh lusan agus rudan mar sin againn ri reic do dhaoine.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Bho chionn beagan bhliadhnaichean ’s e treastaichean a bha lìonadh an rùim seo agus air feasgar Diciadain ’s ann a’ cruinneachadh airson coinneamh ùrnaigh a bha muinntir an àite.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Nuair a ghluais coitheanal na h-Eaglaise Saoire gu togalach eile, chaidh an eaglais a reic agus dachaigh a dhèanamh dhith. Ach fhuair a’ choimhearsnachd cothrom a ceannach an-uiridh.

[Ealasaid NicAoidh] Bha an t-àite ga reic so cheannaich sinn e airson na coimhearsnachd agus bha coinneamhan againn mu bha daoine airson a dhèanamh ris agus dha na rudan a thàinig suas ‘s e gu robh daoine ag iarraidh margaidh a bhith ann.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Bho chionn beagan bhliadhnaichean, bha cothroman aig bèicearan Ghriomasaigh stuth a reic aig tachartasan eile mun eilean.

[Anna NicFhionghain] Bha nuair a bhiodh na lunches againn sa Gheamhradh sna Ceallain nuair a bha iad ann agus tha summer teas, bha sinne nam measg ann an sgoil sna Ceallain. Bhiodh stall ann ‘s bhiodh daoine reic rudan ‘s bhithinn-sa cur scones ann agus feadhainn eile a bharrachd agus rudan mar sin. Rudan math mar sin.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Còmhla ris an sin bidh snàth bhon mhuileann aig Clòimh Uibhist ga thaisbeanadh agus ga reic. Seo an aon àite far am bi an snàth, a th’ air a shnìomh ann an Griomasaigh agus air a dhèanamh bho clòimh Uibhisteach ri fhaighinn an-dràsta.

[Niall Monk] Tòrr dhaoine, bidh iad a’ faighneachd cuin a tha sinn dol a thòiseachadh ga reic ‘s tha mi smaointinn, tha interest mhòr ann, tòrr dhaoine tha dìreach timcheall an àite fhèin. Tha sinn an dòchas gum bi customers gu leòr againn tighinn a-staigh. Tha sinn an dòchas co-dhiù.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Bidh na dorsan fosgailte eadar trì agus sia uairean feasgar gach Diciadain tron t-samhradh agus atharrachaidh sin gu fosgladh agus dùnadh uair nas tràithe anns a’ Gheamhradh. Shona NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An Là, ann an Griomasaigh.

New market in Grimsay

English Beurla

[Iain MacInnes – Presenter] A new market will begin in Grimsay in Uist tomorrow. Food and other local produce will be sold every Wednesday from now on. The market will be held in the old Free Church, the community bought the building last year. Our reporter in Uist, Shona MacDonald went to see what will be available.

[Shona MacDonald - Reporter] At one time there were many shops on Grimsay. That changed, but now a community group aims to turn the wheel back around.

[Elizabeth MacKay] It’s a new thing we’ve started. We’ve received funding for a market for a year and we’ll have lots of things, so we hope people will come out for it. We will have baking, the people of Grimsay, we are famous for our baking and everybody always praises us for how good we are at baking. We’ll have arts & crafts, plants and things like that on sale.

[Shona MacDonald - Reporter] A few years agopews filled this room and every Wednesday the local people gathered here for a prayer meeting.

[Shona MacDonald - Reporter] When the Free Church congregation moved to a another building, the church was sold and it was made into a home. But the community got the opportunity to buy it last year.

[Elizabeth MacKay] The place was for sale so we bought it for the community. We had meetings to discuss what people wanted to do with it and one of the things that came up that people wanted was for there to be a market.

[Shona MacDonald - Reporter] A few years ago, Grimsay bakers had the opportunity to sell their goods at other events around the island.

[Anne MacKinnon] We did when we held lunches in winter in Kallin and also the summer teas, we were involved in those in the school in Kallin. There would be a stall and people would sell things, I would put in my scones as well as other things. Good things like that.

[Shona MacDonald - Reporter] Wool from the Uist Wool mill will also be on display and for sale. This is the only place where the wool, which is spun in Grimsay and made with Uist wool, is available just now.

[Neil Monk] Lots of people, they ask when we are going to start selling it and I would say that there’s lots of interest from those around the local area. We hope there will be plenty customers coming in. That’s what we hope, anyway.

[Shona MacDonald - Reporter] The doors will be open between three and six o’ clock every Wednesday afternoon throughout summer and that will change to opening and closing an hour earlier in winter. Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là, in Grimsay.
