Eaglais gu Ionad Coimhearsnachd an Griomasaigh

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Dòmhnall Angaidh Moireasdan – Preseantair] Nise, a’ gluasad air falbh bhon referendum agus chaidh seann Eaglais Shaor Ghriomasaigh fhosgladh as ùr mar ionad coimhearsnachd. Tha goireasan ann airson cuirmean, coinneamhan agus margaidhean de stuthan ionadail. Thathar an dòchas gum bi an t-ionad na chuideachadh ann a bhith a' tàladh dhaoine a Ghriomasaigh, agus a rèir choltais chan eil ann ach a’ chiad cheum dhan chomann coimhearsnachd a cheannaich an togalach. Tha Shona NicDhòmhnaill ag aithris.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Thòisich an togalach aig Ceann na h-Àirigh ann an Griomasaigh, a tha a-nis na ionad coimhearsnachd, mar eaglais anns na 20an. Bha e air a thogail le fiodh agus staoin. Chaidh togalach de bhlocaichean a thogail mu thimcheall air an sin anns na 60an.

[Jack] Tha dìreach cuimhne agam nuair a bha mi uabhasach fhèin beag bhiodh mi a’ tighinn ann an seo còmhla ri m’ athair agus mo sheanair ‘s mo sheanmhair nuair a bha e na eaglais agus bhiodh sinn a’ tighinn ann an seo air latha na Sàbaid. Agus sin an aon chuimhne a th’agamsa air an togalach seo.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Disathairne, chaidh an t-ionad air a bheil Ceann na h-Àirigh, fhosgladh gu h-oifigeil.

[Jack] Cha b’ urrainn mo sheanair a bhith ann an-diugh agus bha e faireachdainn math gu robh mise mar, ga dhèanamh air a shon.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha rumannan anns an togalach airson coinneamhan agus tasglann air eachdraidh ionadail a chumail. Tha cidsin ceangailte ris an rùm mhòr a th’ ann airson cruinneachaidhean coimhearsnachd.

[Annag NicFhionghain] Tha dùil againn a bhith a’ dèanamh gnothaichean air an oidhche ann an seo nuair a bhios e deiseil air a shon. Tha cruinneachaidhean agus leithid ann ‘s tha mi smaointinn gun toir sin daoine staigh. Cumaidh e na daoine còmhla, an lùib a chèile, tha mi smaoineachadh gun cùm co-dhiù.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] ‘S ann aig Ceann na h-Àirigh a bhios oifis a’ phuist airson Griomasaigh san àm ri teachd. Tòisichidh na margaidhean de stuth ionadail gach feasgar Diciadain an t-seachdain seo. Bhon 7mh den Iuchar bidh samhraidh ri fhaighinn ann gach Diardaoin, Dihaoine agus Disathairne.

[Annag NicFhionghain] e cuideachadh mòr. Bidh luchd-turais a’ tighinn ann an seo agus bidh na daoine timcheall ann an seo fhèin bidh iad a’ dèanamh rudan air a shon ‘s tha e tarraing daoine dhan àite ‘s tha e toirt airgead a-staigh gu daoine ann an seo.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Sin a’ chiad phàirt den leasachadh a-nis deiseil. Tha tuilleadh air fàire aig Comunn Choimhearsnachd Ghriomasaigh do Cheann na h-Àirigh. Shona NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An ann an Griomasaigh.

Church to community centre in Grimsay

English Beurla

[Donald Morrison – Presenter] Now, moving away from the referendum and the former Grimsay Free Church has reopened as a community centre. It has facilities for concerts, meetings and local produce markets. There’s hope that the centre will help attract people to Grimsay, and it would seem that buying the building is only the first step for the community association. Shona MacDonald reports.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The building at Ceann na h-Àirigh in Grimsay , which is now a community centre, began as a church in the 20s. It was built with wood and tin. A brick building was built around it in the 60s.

[Jack] I just remember when I was very little, I’d come here with my father, my grandfather and grandmother when it was a church, we’d come on Sundays. That’s my only memory of this building.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] On Saturday, the centre which has been named Ceann na h-Àirigh, was officially opened.

[Jack] My grandfather could not be here today so it felt good that I was doing it for him.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] There are rooms in the building for meetings and for storing local history archives. There’s a kitchen connected to the large room for community gatherings.

[Ann MacKinnon] We hope to have things on in the evenings when it’s ready. There are gatherings and things and I think that will attract people in. It will keep people together, gathering with one another, I think it will anyway.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Grimsay post office will be based at Ceann na h-Àirigh in the future. Local produce markets will begin each Wednesday afternoon from this week onwards. From the 7th July afternoon tea will be available every Thursday, Friday and Saturday throughout the summer.

[Ann MacKinnon] It will help a lot. Tourists will come here and people in the area themselves will be helping out, it will attract people to the area and bring money in to the people here.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] That’s the first stage of the development now complete. There’s more to come from Grimsay Community Association for Ceann na h-Àirigh . Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là.
