Seachdain Ghriomasaigh

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Màiri Rodgers – Presenter] Tha seachdain sònraichte eile a’ dol air adhart ann am Griomasaigh. Gheibh muinntir an àite cothrom sùil a thoirt taobh a-staigh buidhnean agus gnìomhachasan ionadail agus gheibh iad blasad dhen mhaorach ainmeil aca. Chaidh a chur aig dòigh a dh’ aona-ghnothaich taobh a-muigh àm luchd-turais airson cothrom a thoirt do sluagh Uibhist fhèin pàirt a ghabhail anns an tachartais. Chaidh Shona NicDhòmhnaill ann a thoirt blasad air dhuinne.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] ‘S e fearann is cànan cuspair seachdain Ghriomasaigh, a’ chiad turas a chaidh seachdain de chuirmean, òraidean agus cothroman tadhal air diofar phròiseactan stèidhichte air an eilean a chur air dòigh.

[Linda NicLeòid] Tha leithid a bhuidhnean air an eilean fhèin, sin uile air a thoirt còmhla eadar can, far a bheil iad a’ togail nam bàtaichean, Kallin Shellfish fhèin, Clòimh Uibhist – Uist Wool, Blacklands Centre cuideachd san t-àite seo agus iomadach rud a tha tachairt air an eilean dìreach air a thoirt còmhla, beagan sanasachd a dhèanamh.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Chan eil dùil gum faicear mòran de luchd-turais aig na bhios a dol, gu dearbha cha b’e de bh’ ann am beachd a’ bhuidheann nuair a chaidh seo a dhealbhachadh bho thoiseach.

[Linda NicLeòid] Uill an àm seo dhen bhliadhna tha cùisean air socrachadh, tha an uair air a dhol air ais a-nis ‘s tha na h-oidhcheannan beagan nas fhaide ‘s dìreach rudeigin a bhith ann dha na daoine. Agus tha mi smaoineachadh gum bi e soirbheachail, tha daoine air tighinn a-mach an-diugh dhan a’ bhùth-obrach a th’ againn.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Faodaidh daoine tadhal a dh’ fhaicinn an obair a tha dol far a bheil eathraichean gan càradh ann am Griomasaigh. Cuideachd gheibh daoine blasad de dh’ iasg agus maorach aig gnìomhachas giullachd anns na Ceallan.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Thòisich an t-seachdain le cothrom ionnsachaidh mu dheidhinn clàradh dhaoine airson fiosrachadh a ghlèidheadh còmhla ris an dotair Mairead Bennett.

[An t-Oll Mairead Bennett] Tha e fhathast cudromach a bhith a, mar a chanas sinn sa Bheurla, handing on tradition. Agus tha rudan ùr tighinn a-steach cuideachd. Agus tha, uill coimhead cò tha fuireach sna h-àitichean, carson a thàinig iad, dè rud a tha tarraingeach dhan eilean seo, bheil i nas fheàrr na àitichean eile, an do dh’ ionnsaich iad rudeigin ann an seo no ciamar a dh’ atharraich an dòigh-beatha no beul-aithris no tradition?.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] An dèidh òran snìomh a chluinntinn far clàr, bhiodh e gu math iomchaidh dhan luchd-èisteachd a dhol a choimhead a’ mhuilinn shìos an rathad. Chaidh pìos ùr a chur as am-bliadhna agus gheibh muinntir an àite a’ chiad chothrom sin fhaicinn. Bidh taisbeanadh ann dhen t-snàmh aig Clòimh Uibhist agus na thathar a’ dèanamh leis. Sin far am bi a’ bhùth a bhios a’ reic an t-snàth.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] An seo aig Ceann na h-Àirigh, air feadh an latha bidh cothrom ann èisteachd ri clàran bhon BhBC agus bho tasglann Comunn Coimhearsnachd Ghriomasaigh. Còmhla ris an sin bidh bùithtean-obrach eile ann. Air an oidhche bidh òraidean ri chluinntinn air diofar chuspairean. Agus an uair sin oidhche Shathairne this an t-seachain gu crìoch le teine mòr agus cèilidh. Shona NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An Là, ann an Griomasaigh.

Grimsay Week

English Beurla

[Màiri Rodgers – Presenter] There’s another special week taking place in Grimsay. Locals will get an opportunity to visit local groups and businesses and get to taste their famous shellfish. It was set up intentionally to take place out with the tourist season to give local Uist people the opportunity to take part in the event. Shona MacDonald went to get a taste of the event.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Land and language is the theme of Grimsay Week, the first time that a week of events, talks and opportunities to visit special projects on the island, has been set up.

[Linda MacLeod] There are many groups on the island itself, including where they build the boats, Kallin Shellfish itself, Uist Wool, Blacklands Centre and there are also various other projects coming together on Grimsay and it’s good opportunity to advertise that.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] They don’t expect to see many tourists at the events, certainly it wasn’t the intention of the group when this was first planned.

[Linda MacLeod] Well at this time of year things have quietened down, the clocks have now gone back and the nights are a little longer so it’s good for there to be something on for people. And I think it will be successful, people have come out today to our workshop.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] People can visit where they repair boats on Grimsay. People can also taste the fish and shellfish in the processing business in Kallin.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The week began with a chance to learn about oral history and recordings with the Dr Margaret Bennett.

[Dr. Margaret Bennett] It’s really important to be, as we say in English, handing on tradition. And there are new practices coming in too. We’ll look at who is living where and why they came, what attracted them to this island, is it better than other places, did they learn anything here or how did they change their way of life or their folklore or traditions?.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] After hearing a recording of a spinning song, it’s very apt the listeners go and have a look at the mill down the road. It had a new extension added this year and locals will get the first look at that. There will be an exhibition on the Uist Wools’ yarn and how it is used. That’s where the shop which will be selling the wool will be.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Here at Ceann na h-Àirigh throughout the day there will be an opportunity to listen to recordings from the BBC and from the archives of Grimsay Community Association. Together with that will be more workshops. At night there will be talks on different subjects. And then on Saturday night the week will conclude with big bonfire and a cèilidh. Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là in Grimsay.
