70 bliadhna pòsta

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Iain MacIlleathain – Preseantair] Nise tha cupal à Leòdhas an-diugh a' comharrachadh clach-mhìle nach ruig mòran. Tha 70 bliadhna ann bho phòs Rhoda agus Ailean MacFhionghain. Choinnich iad ann an Glaschu aig àm an Dàrna Cogaidh agus ‘s e dhe na nàbaidhean aca an tè-naidheachd againne, Eilidh NicLeòid, agus chaidh Eilidh a chèilidh orra nan dachaigh ann am Brù air taobh siar Leòdhas, feuch ciamar a tha iad a’ comharrachadh an latha.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Thachair Rhoda ’s Ailean MacFhionghain ann an Glaschu aig àm an Dàrna Cogaidh agus phòs iad, anns a’ bhaile sin, bhliadhna às dèidh dha crìochnachadh.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] tha sinn a’ faicinn an sin a Rhoda?

[Rhoda NicFhionghain] Tha cupal eireachdail!

[Ailean MacFhionghain] Tha mi glè riaraichte gun d’ fhuair mi i, glè thaingeil gun d’ fhuair mi i dhomh fhìn!

[Rhoda NicFhionghain] Catriona Abie agus Iain Gunn agus Ceitidh Mary.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] An-diugh, bidh iad a’ comharrachadh 70 bliadhna bhon a thogadh an dealbh. Fhuair air ceathrar chloinne, deichnear oghaichean agus seachdnar iar-oghaichean. Mar a tha an seanfhacal a' dol, “tha am pòsadh mar seillean, tha mil ann agus tha gath ann.”

[Rhoda NicFhionghain] Bhiodh argamaidean againn. Ach bha foighidinn…

[Ailean MacFhionghain] Up and down!

[Rhoda NicFhionghain] Up and down ach bha foighidinn againn. ‘S bha esan, bha foighidinn, bha e cho, fhios agad bha e…

[Ailean MacFhionghain] Tolerant

[Rhoda NicFhionghain] Bhiodh sinn a’ dèanamh rèidh mu dheireadh. Bha mo bheachd fhìn agamsa ‘s bha bheachd fhèin aigesan. Ach a-nise cha sheasadh an argamaid.

[Ailean MacFhionghain] Tha mise a-riamh, bha mi, bha taobh a’ bhìobaill orm agus bha an fhìrinn, bha fìrinn ann a bha ag ràdh “biodh fearg oirbh ach na laigheadh grian air bhur corraich.”

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Tha a’ chàraid fhathast a’ fuireach anns an taigh aca fhèin le taic an teaghlaich agus luchd-cùraim. Bidh Ailean 97 anns a’ Mhàirt agus bidh Rhoda 94 anns an Lùnastal. An-diugh ge-tà, ‘s e a bhith còmhla cho fada a bhios iad a’ comharrachadh.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] sibh rudeigin còmhla tha mi cinnteach? Bidh sibh...

[Ailean MacFhionghain] Tha mi creids’ gun gabh sinn biadh air choreigin agus glainne bhranndaidh

[Rhoda NicFhionghain] Gabhaidh, gabhaidh. Còmhla ri na tha sinn a' gabhail a thablets!

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Eilidh NicLeòid, BBC An ann am Brù.

70 years married

English Beurla

[Iain MacLean – Presenter] Now a couple from Lewis are today celebrating a milestone that not many will reach. It’s been 70 years since Rhoda and Allan MacKinnon got married. They met in Glasgow at the time of the Second World War and one of their neighbours is our reporter, Eilidh MacLeod, and Eilidh went to visit them in their home in Brue on the west side of Lewis, to see how they are celebrating their day.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] Rhoda and Allan MacKinnon met in Glasgow at the time of the Second World War and they married, in that city, two years after it ended.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] What are we looking at here Rhoda?

[Rhoda MacKinnon] A handsome couple, that’s what!

[Allan MacKinnon] I’m very pleased I got her, very thankful that I got her for myself.

[Rhoda MacKinnon] Catriona Abie and Iain Gunn and Katie Mary…

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] Today, they will be celebrating 70 years since the photograph was taken. They have four children, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. As the saying goes, “marriage is like a bee, there's honey in it and there's a sting in it.”

[Rhoda MacKinnon] We would argue. But we had patience…

[Allan MacKinnon] Up and down!

[Rhoda MacKinnon] Up and down but we had patience. And he, he had patience; he was so, you know, he was…

[Allan MacKinnon] Tolerant.

[Rhoda MacKinnon] We would smooth things out in the end. I had my own opinion and he had his. But the argument would never last.angry… let not the sun go down upon your wrath.”

[Allan MacKinnon] I’ve always been religious and there’s a verse in the bible that says “Be ye

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] The couple are still living in their own home with support from their family and carers. Allan will be 97 in March and Rhoda will be 94 in August. Today though, they’re celebrating being together for so long.

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] You’ll do something together I’m sure? You’ll…

[Allan MacKinnon] I suppose we’ll have dinner and a glass of brandy.

[Rhoda MacKinnon] Yes, we will. Along with the number of tablets we’re taking!

[Eilidh MacLeod – Reporter] Eilidh MacLeod, BBC An Là in Brue.
