Seumas Mason

Gaelic Gàidhlig

Bha Seumas Mason a’ ruith soithichean ann an Inbhir Nis. Bha na soithichean a’ toirt buntàta bhon Ghàidhealtachd gu ruige Lunnainn. Bha sin ann an ochd ceud deug, ceathrad ’s a sia (1846). Agus bha gaiseadh a’ bhuntàta ann. Bha an sluagh a’ fàs acrach. Bha mòran aca gu math bochd. Bha cuid aca feargach gun robh Mason a’ dèanamh prothaid, a’ reic biadh, agus na daoine acrach.

Chuir daoine stad air Mason bho bhith a’ cur buntàta air na soithichean. Thuirt Mason riutha, “bheir mi arbhar is buntàta gu leòr a-steach ma tha sin a dhìth.” Ach cha robh na daoine toilichte. Bha biadh mar sin ro dhaor. Bhris iad uinneagan anns an taigh aige. Chaidh iad gu taigh aig fear eile ann an Inbhir Nis a bha a’ reic buntàta. Ach bha saighdearan ann. Bha beigleidean air na gunnaichean aca.

Bha spàirn ann. Fhuair dithis lotan bho bheigleidean. Chuir na saighdearan fichead duine an grèim. Thilg na daoine clachan air na saighdearan.

Bha am Pròbhaist feargach. Chuir e cairt làn bhuntàta taobh a-muigh Taigh a’ Bhaile. Thug iad a’ chairt tro na sràidean. Bha iad a’ dol don chidhe. Chuir sin fearg air mòran. Air an rathad, chaidh clach a thilgeil. Bhuail i am Pròbhaist. Leugh an Siorram Achd na h-Aimhreit.

Ach thàinig barrachd dhaoine a-mach. Bha còig mìle ann. Thilg iad clachan air na poilis. Fhuair iad grèim air a’ chairt. Dh’fhuasgail iad an t-each. Thilg iad a’ chairt don abhainn.

Chaidh fios a chur do na saighdearan ann an Caisteal Inbhir Nis. Thàinig iadsan don chidhe. Bha beigleidean aca ceangailte. Chuir iad còignear an grèim.

Thòisich an aimhreit Dimàirt. Air Disathairne chaidh ochd cairtean de bhuntàta don chidhe. Bha mòran saighdearan ann. Bha dìreach aon duine a’ feuchainn ri stad a chur orra.

Bha ceannard luchd na h-aimhreit, Aonghas Siosalach, anns a’ chùirt anns a’ Ghiblean. Fhuair e naoi mìosan anns a’ phrìosan.

Ach bha Aonghas ceart mun t-suidheachadh anns a’ cheann a tuath. Rinn an gaiseadh sgrios air a’ bhuntàta. Bha biadh gann dha-rìribh. Bha an t-acras air mòran daoine air a’ Ghàidhealtachd.
