Co-dhùnaidhean Eilidh airson a bhith na vegan

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Ruairidh Alasdair] Tha mi a’ falbh air cheilidh ri Eilidh, a dh’atharraich i gu bhith na vegan an-uiridh. Tha mi airson faighneachd dhith carson thàinig i dhan cho-dhùnadh seo.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] Dè na h-adhbharan as cudromaiche dhutsa, airson a bhith nad vegan?

[Eilidh] Uill tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil e… Uill, tha e a’ toirt cron air beathaichean a gan ithe. Chan eil mi a’ mi a’ smaointinn gu bheil sin ceart. Agus cuideachd, nuair a tha thu a’ coimhead a-steach dha, ’s nuair a thu a’ dèanamh an rannsachadh agad, tha thu a’ faighinn a-mach gur e an rud ceart a th’ ann, agus gu bheil e math dhut, agus gu bheil e tòrr nas fallain mar nach eil thu ag ithe feòil no càil sam bith mar sin.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] A bheil thu a’ smaointinn gu bheil veganism a fàs nas cumanta gu h-àraid am measg daoine òga mar eisimpleir?

[Eilidh] Tha gu dearbh. Dhòmhsa gu pearsanta, tha… tha mu chòig de na càraidean agam a-nis air an tionndadh nan vegans neo vegetarian co-dhiù. Tha tòrr dhaoine a’ stad ag ithe feòil. Tha barrachd ’s barrachd dhaoine a’ mothachadh nach eil e ceart.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] Dè a-nis a bha do theaghlach a’ smaointinn nuair a thuirt thu riutha airson a’ chiad uair “tha mi a’ dol a bhith nam vegan”?

[Eilidh] Bha iad uile a’ magadh orm, agus a’ cantainn “oh, cha bhi thu, cha bhi thu a cumail ris. Bhiodh thu ga toirt às, às dèidh mar mhìos” no rudeigin mar sin. Ach, cùm mi leis, agus tha mi toilichte le sin.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] Shin thu nis bliadhna an dèidh làimh, tha thu fhathast an seo o chionn ’s gu bheil rudeigin a’ dol gu math.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] An e cuspair a th’ ann an veganism, a tha thu a’ smaointinn a tha connspaideach ann an dòigh sam bith. Am bi daoine ag argamaid mun seo.

[Eilidh] Gu dearbha. Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil droch ainm aige. Bidh daoine, nuair a tha thu a’ cantainn “Oh, tha mi nam vegan”, bidh daoine dìreach mar “Oh, vegan! Tha feum agad a’ cantainn sin rium.” Ach chan eil e mar sin idir. Tha tòrr dhaoine a tha vegan, tha iad dìreach mar daoine àbhaisteach.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] Dè a-nis a chanadh tu ri daoine tha ’s dòcha a’ mhòr-cuid a’ magadh mach a bhith veganaich.

[Eilidh] Dìreach chanain riutha, tha feum agad a dhèanamh an rannsachadh agad. Nuair a tha thu a’ coimhead a-steach dha, agus a’ faighinn a-mach, dè tha veganism a’ ciallachadh gu ceart, tha thu a’ mothachadh gur e rud math a th’ ann agus gur e an rud ceart a th’ ann ri dhèanamh.

Eilidh’s decisions to be vegan

English Beurla

[Ruairidh Alasdair] I’m away to visit Eilidh, who turned vegan last year. I want to ask her why she made this decision.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] What are the most important reasons for you, to be vegan?

[Eilidh] Well I think it’s… Well, it harms the animals by eating them. I don’t think that’s right. Also, when you look at it, when you do your research, you find out it’s the right thing, and that it’s good for you, and that it’s healthier if you’re not eating meat or anything like that.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] Do you think veganism is becoming more common, especially amongst young people for example?

[Eilidh] Definitely. Personally… I have about five friends now that have turned vegan or vegetarian at least. There are lots of people that have stopped eating meat. More and more people are noticing that it isn’t right.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] What did your family think when you first said to them “I’m going to be vegan”?

[Eilidh] They were all mocking me, and saying “Oh, you won’t, you won’t keep with it. You’ll give up, after about a month” or something like that. But I kept with it, and I’m happy with that.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] This is you a year later, and you’re still here so something must be going well.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] Is the subject of veganism, do you think that it is controversial in some way? Do people argue about this?

[Eilidh] Indeed. I think it has a bad name. People will, when you say “Oh, I’m vegan”, people will just be like “Oh, vegan! You need to say that to me.” But it isn’t like that at all. Lots of people are vegan, they are just like normal people.

[Ruairidh Alasdair] What would you say now to people that are, probably the majority, mocking vegans?

[Eilidh] I would just say to them; you need to do your research. When you look into it, and find out, what veganism really is, you realise that it’s a good thing and that it’s the right thing to do.
