Na Gàidheil ’s Cogadh Mòr nan Seachd Bliadhna
[Dòmhnall] A dh’aindeoin dealas nan ceann-cinnidh, ’s ann gu math amharasach a bha Breatainn às a’ Ghàidhealtachd fhathast. Bha làn fhios aig urrachan mòra Lunnainn nach robh ach deich bliadhna bho fhuair iad smachd air na reubaltaich aig Cùl Lodair ’s bha iad a-nise armaichte a-rithist. ’S e a bha a dhìth ach an cur a-null thairis gun dàil do chogadh ùr an aghaidh nam Frangach.
[Dòmhnall] Thòisich Cogadh Mòr nan Seachd Bliadhna air a’ chrìch eadar na Frangaich ’s na Breatannaich ann an Ameireaga. B’ann an seo cuideachd a b’ fhuiltiche a bha an t-sabaid. An dèidh dha na Frangaich ’s an cuid thùsanaich trì bliadhna a thoirt gan dochann, rinn na Breatannaich plana airson ionnsaigh mhòr trì-cheàrnach a thoirt air fearann nam Frangach. Dheigheadh a’ chiad fheachd a-mach gu iar ’s gu tuath tro na Lochan Mòra, ghabhadh an dàrna tè dìreach tuath gu Montreal agus sheòladh an treas bhuidheann a dh’Alba Nuadh a thoirt ionnsaigh air gearastan mòr nam Frangach, Louisburg, aig beul Abhainn Labhrainn.
[Dòmhnall] B’ e port cudromach a bh’ ann an Louisburg. B’ e fear dhe na trì stèiseanan nèibhidh a bu mhotha a bh’ ann an Aimeireaga. Tha an gearastan an-diugh air a thogail às ùr, mar a bha e an ìre mhath bho thùs ach a-mhàin nach eil an luchd-turais a’ faighinn an t-salchair, an fhuaim ’s an fhàillidh a bhiodh ann ann am meadhan na h-ochdamh linn deug.
[Dòmhnall] Chuir an comanndair Breatannach, an Seanalair Wolfe, saighdearan air tìr mu chòig mìle an iar-dheas air Louisburg.
[Dòmhnall] Tha an tràigh na h-àite-cluiche an-diugh do shean ’s òg, ach b’ e saoghal eile a bh’ ann nuair a thàinig rèisimeid MhicShimidh air tìr an seo anns an Ògmhios seachd deug leth-cheud ’s a h-ochd. Bha na gunnaichean Frangach air mullach na creige, a’ feuchainn air na bàtaichean beaga làn is ga cur thairis le saighdearan.
[Dòmhnall] Air dhòigh air choreigin rinn na Gàidheil cladach dheth. Bha an tràigh agus a’ mhuir fhèin làn de sprùilleach bhàtaichean agus de chuirp nam marbh air am milleadh ’s air an reubadh às a chèile. Bha rànail na bh’ air an leòn uile-thimcheall orra. Ach gu na a bha slàn romhpa, musgaid anns an dàrna làimh ’s claidheamh anns an tèile. Dh’èirich iad a’ bruach, chuir iad rabhadh gu na Frangaich a bh’ air am bàrr ’s bha an rathad fosgailte romhpa gu Louisburg.
[Dòmhnall] Air an t-siathamh latha deug den Iuchar, cha mhòr dà mhìos an dèidh dha na Breatannaich tighinn air tìr, ghèill Louisburg.
[Dòmhnall] Ghabh na Breatannaich a-nise sìos Abhainn Labhrainn gu Quebec. Dh’òrdaich Wolfe nach fhaodadh iad tuathanas no taigh fhàgail air an t-slighe gun an losgadh, dìreach mar a bha na Hanòbharaich air a dhèanamh air an t-slighe gu deas tron Ghleann Mhòr an dèidh Chùil Lodair.
[Dòmhnall] Bha iad a-nise a’ teannadh dlùth air baile Quebec, a bh’ air a dhìon gu teann aig feachd mhòr Fhrangach.
[Dòmhnall] Bha an geamhradh a’ tighinn orra ach dh’fheumadh Wolfe aon oidhrip eile a dhèanamh ge b’ e dè chosgadh e.
[Dòmhnall] Tha i àlainn soilleir an-diugh ach bha an oidhche dubh dorcha anns an t-Sultain seachd deug leth-cheud ’s a naoi nuair a thàinig Wolfe air tìr an seo aig Anse au Foulon. Bha iad a’ feuchainn ri a dhèanamh gun fhiosta ach rinn iad cus fuaime. Chuala saighdear Frangach a bh’ air faire rudeigin. “qui vive” dh’èigh e anns an dorchadas. Bha fear dha na saighdearan Gàidhealach fileanta anns a’ chànan ri linn nam Frangach a bha còmhla ris ann am feachd nan Seumasach. “Vive le roi” fhreagair e. Am freagairt ceart a rèir coltais agus fhuair e troimhe.
[Dòmhnall] Cha robh iad fada a’ cur an t-saighdeir Fhrangach an dàrna taobh ’s rinn na Gàidheil an slighe suas an ceum caol ri oir na creige.

The Gaels and the Seven Year War
[Donald] Despite the clan chiefs’ eagerness, Britain was still very suspicious of the Highlands. The great London bigwigs were well aware that it was only ten years since they gained control of the rebels at Culloden and they were now armed again. What was needed was to send them abroad immediately to a new war against France.
[Donald] The Seven Year War started on the border between the French and the British in America. This was also the bloodiest part of the battle. After the French and their natives gave three years to the assault, the British planned to launch a three-pronged attack on the French land. The first army would go out to the west and to the north through the Great Lochs, the second one would head straight to Montreal and the third group would sail to Nova Scotia to attack the large French fort of Louisburg at the mouth of the Lawrence River.
[Donald] Louisburg was an important port. It was one of the three largest navy stations in America. Today the fort has been rebuilt, as a fairly accurate representation of how it was originally but sparing tourists the dirt, the noise and the smell that would have been around in the mid-eighteen century.
[Donald] The British commander, General Wolfe, landed soldiers approximately five miles south-west of Louisburg.
[Donald] Today the beach is a recreational area for young and old, but it was another world when Lord Lovat’s regiment landed here in June 1758. The French guns were on the top of the rock, aiming for the little boats overflowing with soldiers.
[Donald] Somehow the Gaels made it ashore. The beach and the sea itself was full of the boats’ debris and the destroyed, mangled bodies of the dead. The cry of the injured surrounded them. But those that were alive ploughed on, a musket in one hand and a sword in the other. They climbed the bank, they warned the Frenchmen above them and the road to Louisburg was open to them.
[Donald] On the 16th of July, nearly two months after the British came ashore, Louisburg surrendered.
[Donald] The British now heading down the Lawrence River to Quebec. Wolfe ordered that they must burn every farm and house on the route, just as the Hanoverians had done on the way south through the Great Glen after Culloden.
[Donald] They were now approaching the city of Quebec, that was closely protected by a large French army.
[Donald] The winter was closing in on them but Wolfe need to make one last attempt regardless of what it would cost.
[Donald] It is lovely and clear today but the night was pitch black in September 1759 when Wolfe came ashore here at Anse au Foulon They were trying to make it unnoticed but they made too much noise. A French soldier who was on watch heard something. “Qui vive?” he shouted in the darkness. One of the Highland soldiers was fluent in the language thanks to the Frenchmen that were with him in the Jacobite army. “Vive le roi” he replied. Apparently the correct answer and he got through.
[Donald] They quickly dispensed with the French soliders and the Gaels made their way up the narrow path by the end of the rock.
