Na beachdan aig Alannah air oileanaich agus deoch làidir

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Ruairidh] Tha e math cothrom fhaighinn cluinntinn air dhaoine eile, agus leis gum bi sinn an còmhnaidh a’ cluinntinn mun oileanaich agus deoch làidir, tha mi a’ dol a thachairt ri tè anns a’ cheathramh bliadhna gus an cluinn sinn mu na bhios gu fìrinneach a’ dol anns an oilthigh.

[Ruairidh] Dè a-nis do bheachd air na bhios na meadhanan ag ràdh is a’ sgrìobhadh mun t-seòrsa cultair a tha sin a th’ ann aig iomadh oilthigh a th’ ann air feadh na dùthcha?

[Alannah] Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil na meadhanan, you know, tha iad a’ coimhead air mar nach e rud math a th’ ann. Agus, ann an dòigh, you know, chan e rud math a th’ ann ‘son a h-uile duine. Bidh daoine a’ dol, ag òl cus, bidh daoine a’ sabaid, is iad, is an deoch orra. Ach, yeah, tha daoine cuideachd a’ smaoineachadh, you know, ma tha thu aig an oilthigh, ’s ann airson studaidh a tha thu ann. Cha bu chòir dhut a bhith a-mach, sin na bha mo mhàthair a’ smaoineachadh; “A-mach a-rithist! Ciamar a leughadh na leabhraichean sin?”. Tha balance ann ann an dòigh.

[Ruairidh] A bheil thu a’ smaointinn gu bheil loidhne ann do dhaoine òga, ge-tà. A bheil cunnart ann gum bi daoine òga gu h-àraid ag òl cus agus ro chunbhalach cuideachd?

[Alannah] Chan eil fhios a’m. Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh, airson a’ mhòr chuid den ùine, gu bheil daoine òga ciallach gu leòr, is tha fhios aca aig deireadh an latha nach mairidh seo, nach bi iad nan oileanaich fad nam beatha, gu bheil, aig deireadh an latha, bidh aca ri obair fhaighinn is beatha ceart ciallach a bhith aca. Ach airson cuid de dhaoine, tha iad dìreach, tha iad a’ dol dhan oilthigh agus tha iad a’ dol dha na pàrtaidh seo agus, tha iad dìreach, tha e a’ ruith air falbh leotha. Agus tha mi eòlach air daoine a tha air an oilthigh fhàgail oir bha iad dìreach a’ dol gu parties cus.

Alannah’s views on students and alcohol

English Beurla

[Ruairidh] It’s good to get the opportunity to hear from other people, and since we always hear about students and alcohol, I’m going to meet up with one in fourth year to hear about what really goes on at university.

[Ruairidh] What’s your opinion on what the media says and writes about that sort of culture at many universities throughout the country?

[Alannah] I think that the media, you know, they look at it like it’s not a good thing. And, in a way, you know, it’s not a good thing for everybody. People go, drink too much, people fight, and they, and they’re under the influence of alcohol. But, yeah, people also think, you know, if you’re at university you’re there to study. You shouldn’t be going out, that’s what my mother thought; “Out again? How will the books get read?”. There’s a balance, in a way.

[Ruairidh] Do you think there’s a line for young people, however? Is there a danger that young people in particular are drinking too much and too frequently as well?

[Alannah] I don’t know. I think, for most of the time, that young people are sensible enough, and at the end of the day they know it won’t last, that they won’t be students all their lives, that, at the end of the day they’ll have to get a job and have a proper, sensible, life. But for some people, they’re just, they go to university and they go to this party and it just, it runs away with them. And I know people that have left university because they were just going to parties too much.
