Co-ionnanachd eadar na gnèithean

[Ruairidh] Carson a tha mi ag iarraidh gender quotas a sgrùdadh? Do mhòran, ’s e rud gu math bunaiteach is cudromach a th’ ann an co-ionannas eadar na gnèithean. Ach an dòigh as fheàrr sin ruigsinn, ge-tà, ’s e ceist eile a tha sin.

[Ruairidh] Tha mòran dhe na bheachd gu bheil feum againn air gender quotas a chleachdadh gus an dèanamh cinnteach gun ruig sinn sin, ach ’s e ceist gu math connspaideach a th’ ann. Aig deireadh an latha, a bheil boireannaich gu fìrinneach feumach air quotas is an obraichean adhartas eile a ruigsinn?

[Ruairidh] Leis gur e cuspair a tha seo a tha a’ beantainn ri leth phàirt dhen t-sluagh, agus e puing a tha a h-uile neach ag iarraidh ruigsinn anns an àm a tha ri teachd, bu toil leam-sa cluinntinn on dà thaobh.

[Eilidh] ’S e nuair a bhios mar chompanaidh mhòr, em, a’ feuchainn ri bhith a’ toirt obair do an aon àireamh de bhoireannaich agus fhireannaich, gus am bi, mar, cho-ionnanachd ann.

[Cailean] ’S e dìreach, tha mi a’ smaointinn tha barrachd nigheanan a’ falbh dhan oilthigh na tha gillean a-nist, agus tha mi a’ smaointinn ged as e bha àm ann nuair a bha fir os cionn a h-uile rud, chan eil mi a’ smaointinn gu bheil sin buileach fìor an-drast’. Tha cùisean air a bhith ag atharrachadh airson ùine glè fhada a-nist, agus tha mi a’ smaointinn gun cum sin air a bhith ga atharrachadh.

[Shannon] Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil e math... gu math cudromach gu bheil boireannaich ann a tha ann an obraichean àrd airson... gu h-àraid airson nigheanan òg’. Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gur e deagh, em, modal a th’ ann dhaibh.

[Zach] Tha feum againn fhathast a bhith ag obair airson co-ionnanachd a ruigsinn. Chan eil gu-leòr boireannaich againn ann an suidheachaidhean àrd aig companaidhean mòra.

[Lana] Mar bhoireannach nuair a tha mi a’ cluinntinn daoine ag ràdh nach eil... nach eil boireannaich a cheart cho... cho glic no chan eil an uiread de thàlant aca no chan eil iad freagarrach airson an obair... chan eil mi ga thuigsinn.

Gender equality

[Ruairidh] Why do I want to research gender quotas? To many, gender equality is a fundamental and very important thing. But the best way to achieve that, however, is another question.

[Ruairidh] Many are of the opinion that we need to use gender quotas in order to be sure we get there, but it’s a pretty contentious question. At the end of the day, do women genuinely need quotas in order to to reach other higher levels of work?

[Ruairidh] Since this is a subject that affects half the population, and it’s a point that everybody wants to arrive in the future, I’d like to hear from both sides.

[Eilidh] It’s when, like, big companies, em, try to give jobs to the same number of women and men, so that there’s, like, equality.

[Cailean] It’s just, I think that more girls are going to university than boys now, and I think even though there was a there was a time when time when men were running everything, I don’t think that’s completely true now. Things have been changing for a very long time now, and I think it’ll keep on changing.

[Shannon] I think that it’s…quite important that there are women in high level jobs for…especially for young girls. I think that it’s a good, em, model for them.

[Zach] We still need to work to achieve equality. We don’t have enough women in senior positions in big companies.

[Lana] As a woman, when I hear people saying that... that women aren’t as... as clever or don’t have the same amount of talent, or that they’re not right for the work... I don’t understand it.
