Cruthaich lanntair breagha airson oidhche dhorcha

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Shona] Nis an toiseach tha an tiona agam ann a sheo agus tha mi air a ghlanadh agus am pàipear a thoirt dheth. Agus a-raoir chuir mi uisge ann ’s chuir mi dhan reothadair e thairis air an oidhche agus mar a chì sibh tha deigh a-nist ann agus tha sin a’ dol a chuideachadh airson a bhith a’ cumail an tion anns a’ chumadh seo fhad ’s a chuireas mi pàtran air. Agus tha mi a’ dol a chleachdadh marker, peann tiugh airson pàtran a chur air. Agus ’s e rionnagan air a bheil mise ag amas. Nist, uaireannan leis cho fuar ’s a tha an tion, bidh e a’ reòthadh a’ pheann. Mar sin tha mi dìreach a’ dol a chleachdadh pìos pàipeir gach mionaid no dhà airson a bhith cinnteach gu faic mi an loidhne ceart gu leòr. Ok ma tha, tha mi air rionnag a chur air mar sin agus ’s e tha mi a’ dol a dhèanamh ach le tàirng agus òrd dìreach tuill a chur ann aig gach corner mar gum biodh den rionnaig. Agus tha searbhadair agam ann a sheo cuideachd a tha a’ dol a chuideachadh a bhith a’ cumail an tion ann an àite ’s tha mi dìreach dol ga phasgadh mun cuairt air an tion. Agus a-nis le tàirng agus an òrd agam, tha mi dìreach ag iarraidh toll a chur a-staigh.

[Shona] Tha mi a’ toirt beagan ùine a bhith cinnteach gu bheil mi san àite cheart leis an tàirng oir tha e a’ gluasad mun cuairt ’s an uair sin nuair a tha mi ann, tha mi ga chumail ’s an òrd a chleachdadh. Tha e nas fheàrr dìreach beagan a bharrachd ùine a chosg aig an ìre seo. Dèan cinnteach gu bheil sibh anns an àite cheart.

[Shona] Agus ’s e tha mi a’ dol a dhèanamh a-nist ach dìreach a’ dol eadar an fheadhainn mhòra a tha sin agus nì mi tuill a tha dìreach rud beag na bu lugha, a’ cleachdadh an aon tàirng, mar a chì sibh, dìreach gun a bhith ga bhuaileadh an uimhir. Airson ’s gu faigh sibh toll a tha na bu lugha.

[Shona] Tha mi faisg air deiseil. Feuch gun dèan sibh seo caran sgiobalta oir chan eil sibh ag iarraidh air an deigh a bhith leaghadh no bidh e nas duilghe an cumadh a chur a-staigh.

[Shona] Seo a-nist. Tha mi air an deigh a thoirt a-mach às mar a chì sibh agus tha na rionnagan mun cuairt air an tion air fad. Agus tha clachan beaga ann a sheo a tha dìreach a’ dol a chur beagan cuideim ann an bonn an tion. Agus mar sin, ma tha e agad a’ crochadh air craobh no air balla, cha tèid e air falbh leis a’ ghaoith no sìon mar sin. Agus tha cuideachd uèir agam agus tha mi a’ dol a chur dìreach beagan dheth air airson ’s gun tèid againn air a chrochadh.

[Shona] Feuch ga ghearradh agus tha mi a’ dol ga chur tro na tuill a rinn mi anns na rionnagan dìreach mar seo so ’s dòcha chì mi dè an fheadhainn a dh’obrachadh.

[Shona] ’S dòcha thairis air a dhà dhiubh sin, mar sin an toll a tha sin aig mullach na rionnaige sin agus aig mullach am fear seo. Agus tha mi dìreach a’ dol ga chur a-staigh an dà tholl mar sin, shuas sa mheadhan agus an uair sin tha mi dìreach a’ dol gan tionndaidh mun cuairt air a chèile gus an cùm iad mar sin. Ach bidh faiceallach oir tha an deireadh dheth gu math geur. Agus pasgaidh mi e mar sin, a-rithist dìreach mun cuairt turas no dhà airson ’s gun cùm e glè mhath. Agus an uair sin, thèid againn air a chrochadh mar sin.

[Shona] Nist a-staigh leis an solas agus an uair sin tha mi an dòchas gun deàrrs seo a-mach tron an tion tro na tuill agus gum faic sinn na rionnagan gu math soilleir.

[Shona] Uabhasach fhèin àlainn.

Create a bright lantern for a dark night

English Beurla

[Shona] Now first I have a tin here and I’ve cleaned it and taken the paper off. And last night I got water and I put it in the freezer overnight and as you’ll see there’s now ice in it and that’s going to help to keep the tin in this shape while I put a pattern on it. And I’m going to use a thick marker pen to put a pattern on it. And it’s stars that I’m aiming for. Now, sometimes with how cold the tin is, it freezes the pen. So, I’m just going to use a piece of paper every minute or two to be sure that I see the line well enough. Ok then, I’ve put a star on it like that and what I’m going to do is with a nail and hammer just put holes in each corner like a star. And I have a towel here too that will help to keep the tin in place and I’m just going to fold it around the tin. And now with a nail and my hammer, I just want to put a hole in it.

[Shona] I’m taking a bit of time to be sure that I’m in the right place with the nail because it moves around and then when I’m there, I keep it and use the hammer. It’s better just to spend a bit more time at this stage. Make sure that you’re in the right place.

[Shona] And what I’m going to do now is just go between the big ones there and I’ll make holes that are just a little smaller using the same nail, as you’ll see, just without hitting it as much. So that you get a hole that’s smaller.

[Shona] I’m close to finished. Try to do this quite quickly because you don’t want the ice to melt or it will be more difficult to put the shape in.

[Shona] Here now. I’ve taken the ice out of it as you can see and the stars are around the full tin. And there are small stones here that just put a little bit of weight at the base of the tin. And so, if you have it hanging on a tree or on a wall, it won’t go away with the wind or anything like that. And I also have wire and I’m going to put just a bit of it on so that we can hang it.

[Shona] Try to cut it and I’m going to put it through the hoes I made in the stars just like this so maybe I’ll see which ones will work.

[Shona] Maybe over these two, like that hole at the top of that star and at the top of this one. And I’m just going to put it into the two holes like that, up in the middle and then I’m just going to twist them around each other to keep it like that. But be careful because the end of it is very sharp. And I’ll fold it like that, again just around once or twice so that it keeps well. And then, we can hang it like that.

[Shona] Now in with the light and then I hope it will shine out through the tin through the holes and we’ll see the stars very clearly.

[Shona] Very beautiful.
