Dè tha Fiona a’ dèanamh sa chidsin?

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Fiona] Is mise Fiona J NicCoinnich agus seo far a bheil mise a’ fuireach an-dràsta, glaiste a-staigh Eilean. Channaigh ’s na h-Eileanan A-Staigh far a bheil sia duine deug a’ fuireach.

[Fiona] ’S e àite brèagha a th’ ann agus rùm gu leòr againn airson ar uair a thìde eacarsaich fhaighinn.

[Fiona] Ach smaoinich air na rudan cudromach mar bhiadh, chan eil sinne a’ faighinn ach dà aiseag gach seachdain an-dràsta agus cha bhi ach aon bhùth, a’ Cho-Op bheag ann am Malaig, a’ cur biadh dhuinn. Chan fhaigh sinn online deliveries bhon supermarket sam bith agus tha na bacaidhean bìdh air na rudan a tha air an reic anns a’ Cho-Op.

[Fiona] Mar sin, dè mu dheidhinn a’ lorg rudeigin a tha mun cuairt airson ithe? Nuair a tha thu a’ dol a-mach airson uair a thìde a’ dèanamh eacarsaich cùm sùil a-mach airson rudan mar creamh no wild garlic.

[Fiona] Tha i uabhasach math dhut, blasta agus saor an-asgaidh.

[Fiona] Uill tha uighean againn co-dhiù ach chan eil pasta ann idir – cha d’fhuair mi pasta ann a sheo airson dà mhìos a-nise ach tha inneal pasta agam fhathast aig an taigh. Uill, tha mi deiseil airson poit brot a dhèanamh ris a’ chreamh agus a h-uile stuth agam deiseil – buntàta, uinnean, stock cube. Agus airson a’ phasta tha an inneal agam deiseil agus bocsa uighean agus flùr cuideachd. Agus ‘s e starter a tha sin airson dèanamh lofa arain – chan e ach flùr agus uisge ann a shin. Tha am poit brot deiseil a-niste agus sailead bheag cuideachd a’ cleachdadh a’ chreamh. Tha beatha cruaidh gu leòr airson a h-uile duine an-dràsta agus tha sinne gu math fortanach airson a bhith fuireach ann a sheo ach tha dùbhlain eile againne cuideachd.

What is Fiona making in the kitchen?

English Beurla

[Fiona] I’m Fiona J MacKenzie and this is where I live for now, locked in. The Isle of Canna in the Inner Hebrides where sixteen people live.

[Fiona] It’s a beautiful place and there’s plenty of space to get our hour of exercise.

[Fiona] But think of the important things like food, we only get two ferries each week now and only one shop, the wee Co-Op in Mallaig, sends us food. We won’t get any online deliveries from the supermarkets and we are restricted to the food that is sold in the Co-Op.

[Fiona] So, how about looking around for something to eat when you go out for your hour of exercise? Keep an eye out for things like creamh or wild garlic.

[Fiona] It’s really good for you, tasty, and free.

[Fiona] Well we have eggs anyway but there’s no pasta at all – I haven’t got pasta here for two months now but I have a pasta machine at the house. Well, I’m ready to make a pot of soup with the garlic and I have everything ready – potatoes, onions, stock cube. And for the pasta, I have this machine ready and a box of eggs and flour too. And this is a starter to make a loaf of bread – there’s only flour and water in there. The pot of soup is ready now and a wee salad too using the garlic. Life is hard enough for everyone right now and we are very lucky to be living here but we have other challenges too!
