Aithisg bhliadhnail aig MG ALBA

Gaelic Gàidhlig

Angela NicIlleathain - Preseantair] Thàinig àrdachadh anns an àireamh dhaoine a tha a’ coimhead an t-sianail seo, BBC ALBA, anns a’ bhliadhna mu dheireadh. A rèir MG ALBA, a thabhainn an t-seirbheis ann an co-bhanntachd leis a’ BhBC, dh’ èirich an àireamh a tha a’ coimhead an t-sianail fhichead ‘s a sia às a’ cheud anns a’ bhliadhna mu dheireadh. Tha còrr is sia ceud mìle duine ann an Alba ga choimhead tron an t-seachdain. A’ foillseachadh aithisg bhliadhnail na buidhne an-diugh, thuirt ceannardan na seirbheis gu bheil iad mothachail gu bheil barrachd obrach ri dhèanamh fhathast. Seo Catriona NicFhionghain.

[Catriona NicFhionghain – Neach-aithris] Air an dàrna fichead den t-Sultain, mhìle ‘s a h-ochd, thàinig BBC ALBA. ‘S e MG ALBA a’ bhuidheann a tha ann an co-bhann leis a’ BhBC gus an t-sianal a ruith. Agus an-diugh, dh’ fhoillsich iad an aithisg bhliadhnail aca. Tha na h-àireamhan a nochd an-diugh a’ sealltainn gu bheil barrachd a’ coimhead an t-sianail air feadh na dùthcha. Tha MG ALBA cuideachd airson dèanamh cinnteach gum bi fhios aig daoine nach fheum facal Gàidhlig a bhith aca ma tha iad airson an t-sianal a choimhead.

[Dòmhnall Caimbeul] Tha e sònraichte inntinneach gun tig daoine aig nach eil Gàidhlig a choimhead BBC ALBA ma tha prògraman ciùil, prògraman le sgeulachdan làidir, leithid documentaries, prògraman aithriseach agus cuideachd prògraman spòrs. Tha fhios againne air fad gu bheil rugbaidh agus ball-coise a’ tarraing tòrr dhaoine agus chan fheum sgilean cànain a bhith aca airson a bhith a’ coimhead an t-seòrsa phrògraman sin. Ach tha iad air an tarraing a-staigh gu saoghal na Gàidhlig agus tha iad a’ cluinntinn Gàidhlig agus ‘s e fìor dheagh rud a tha sin.

[Catriona NicFhionghain – Neach-aithris] Tha na figearan a chaidh fhoillseachadh a’ sealltainn gu bheil luchd-amhairc air a dhol suas fhichead ‘s a sia às a’ cheud. Thairis air seachdain, bidh sia ceud seachd deug thar fhichead mìle duine air feadh na dùthcha a’ coimhead air an t-sianal. Àrdachadh cha mhòr cheud mìle ann am bliadhna. Cuideachd, bha ceithir puing a h-aon millean duine a’ coimhead air prògraman air an iPlayer, anns a’ bhliadhna a chaidh seachad. Ach tha daoine a’ faighinn cho tarraingeach mu dheidhinn an t-sianail?

[Dòmhnall Caimbeul] ‘S e spòrs na prògraman a tha air an coimhead nas bitheanta 's as motha gu dearbh fhèin, agus còmhla ris an sin, tha prògraman ciùil, agus, mar a tha mi ag ràdh, prògraman aithriseach cuideachd uabhasach fhèin làidir.

[Catriona NicFhionghain – Neach-aithris] Ged a tha prògraman spòrs is prògraman ciùil gu h-àraidh a’ tàladh barrachd dhaoine don t-sianal, tha MG ALBA airson a dhol ceum air adhart, ‘s a tha iad a-nis a coimhead air barrachd dràma a chruthachadh.

[Dòmhnall Caimbeul] Uill, tha BBC ALBA air dearbhadh thairis air na còig bliadhna a dh’ fhalbh gum faod sinn a bhith ruith sianal làn-ùine, cha mhòr làn-ùine, seachd uairean gach air airgead a tha glè bheag, ach mar a tha sibh ag ràdh, tha dràma cosgail agus tha sinn a-nis a’ gluasad gu ìre far a bheil sinn a’ cur pròiseact leasachaidh ri chèile agus a’ tòiseachadh a’ coimhead air ciamar a thèid againne air an ath cheum a ghabhail gus dràma leantainneach a chur air BBC ALBA, gum bi sinn a’ tachairt, tha mi an dòchas.

MG ALBA's yearly report

English Beurla

[Angela MacLean - Presenter] There has been a rise in the number of people who have been watching this channel, BBC ALBA, in the last year. According to MG ALBA, who offer this service in partnership with the BBC, the number of those who watch the channel increased by forty-six per cent in the last year. More than six hundred thousand people in Scotland watch through the week. Publishing their annual report today, the heads of the service admitted that there is more work to do yet. Here’s Catriona MacKinnon.

[Catriona MacKinnon – Reporter] On the 19th of September 2008, BBC ALBA arrived. MG ALBA is the group in partnership with the BBC who run the channel. And today, they published their annual report. The numbers that were published today show that more are watching the channel all over the country. MG ALBA also want to make sure that people know that they don’t have to have a word of Gaelic if they want to watch the channel

[Donald Campbell] It is very interesting that people come who don’t have Gaelic to watch BBC ALBA if music programmes, programmes with strong stories, like documentaries, documentaries and also sports programmes are on. We know that rugby and football attract many people and they don’t have to have language skills to watch those sorts of programmes. But they are pulling people into the world of Gaelic and they are listening to Gaelic and that is a very good thing.

[Catriona MacKinnon – Reporter] The figures that were published show that viewers have gone up 46%. Over a week, 637, 000 people all over the country watching the channel. A rise of 200,000 people in a year. Also, 4.1 million people have watch programmes on the iplayer in the past year. But what are people finding so attractive about the channel.

[Donald Campbell] Sport is the most commonly watched programmes, certainly and with that there are music programmes and, as I have said, documentaries are awful strong.

[Catriona MacKinnon – Reporter] Although sports programmes and music programmes are mainly attracting people to the channel, MG ALBA want to go a step ahead and they are creating more drama.

[Donald Campbell] Well, BBC ALBA has proved over the five years that have passed that we can run a channel full-time, almost, seven hours every day on very little money, but as you say, drama is expensive and we are now moving to the stage where we are putting a development project together and beginning to look at how we can move to the next step to create a continuing drama on BBC ALBA, that this will happen, I hope.
