25 bliadhna de dh'Fhèis nan Garbh Chrìochan

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Anne Lundon – Presenter] Bha seachdain thrang airson clann aig Fèis nan Garbh Chrìochan, a tha a’ comharrachadh 25 de dh’ aois am-bliadhna. A bharrachd air na clasaichean àbhaisteach tron t-seachdain, bha an Fhèis ga ruith airson eile aig an deireadh-sheachdain. Cuideachd rinn iad CD sònraichte a chaidh a chur air dòigh le daoine a bha air pàirt a ghabhail thar nam bliadhnaichean. Le tuilleadh, seo Seonaidh MacCoinnich.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] Thàinig còrr is 60 clann-sgoile còmhla ann an Ath Tharracail an t-seachdain a chaidh, a’ comharrachadh 25 bliadhna bhon a thòisich Fèis nan Garbh Crìochan. ris a bha e coltach sa chiad bhliadhnaichean?

[Iain MacMhaighstir] Oh, bha e gu math diofraichte, bha an seann sgoil ann ‘s cha robh i cho mòr no cho snasail ris an sgoil seo ‘s bha mini buses a’ dol air feadh nan àitichean a’ dol chun nan tallaichean beaga. ‘S bha clasaichean uaireannan anns na busaichean ma bha na meanbh-chuileagan ro dhona so tha an rud air atharrachadh gu mòr.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] A-nis tha e tachairt ann am Bun-sgoil Ath Tharracail. a’ bhuaidh a tha an fhèis air a thoirt air Gàidhlig anns an sgìre.

[Cailean Masterton] Tha gu leòr dhen chloinn aig a bheil Gàidhlig agus na tuitearan cuideachd, so tha e glè mhath agus tha sinn a’ feuchainn ri, tric bidh sinn a’ dèanamh òrain agus puirt às an sgìre fhèin so tha sin cudromach.

[Iain MacMhaighstir] Uill tha e math dhan sgìre agus gu h-àraidh dhan chloinn. Tha iad a’ faighinn cothrom tighinn ri chèile anns na làithean saora agus a bhith ag ionnsachadh mu dheidhinn a’ chultair againn agus tha sin cudromach ‘s tha iad a’ faighinn cothrom a bhith a’ bruidhinn Gàidhlig agus a cluinntinn a’ chànain cuideachd.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] Agus an dòigh air adhart son an fhèis sna bliadhnaichean ri thighinn.

[Vicky NicIlleathain] Bidh iad a’ ruith clasaichean tron bhliadhna so tha iad airson sin a chumail a’ dol agus sin a leasachadh. Tha iad airson, dìreach, an dualchas ‘s an cultar ‘s an ceòl bhon sgìre aca fhèin a chumail beò agus gum bi a h-uile duine a’ faighinn cothrom a bhith an sàs leis.

[Iain MacMhaighstir] Feumaidh sinn barrachd oidhirp a dhèanamh airson a bhith togail an àireamh de dhaoine a tha a’ bruidhinn Gàidhlig agus a bhith feuchainn ri Gàidhlig a dhèanamh nas nàdarraiche dhaibh is cuideachd a bhith cuimhneachadh mu dheidhinn nan deugairean. Tha cuid bho 8 gu 18 bliadhna a dh’ aois agus cuid de na deugairean bidh iad a’ fàgail nuair a tha iad ‘s dòcha trì no ceithir deug.

25 years of Fèis nan Garbh Chrìochan

English Beurla

[Anne Lundon – Presenter] It was a busy week for children at Fèis nan Garbh Chrìochan, which is celebrating it’s 25th year this year. As well as the regular class through the week, the Fèis ran for two extra days over the weekend. They also made a special CD, by those who had taken part in the Fèis over the years. With more, here’s Seonaidh MacKenzie.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] More than 60 pupils gathered in Acharacle last week, celebrating 25 years since Fèis nan Garbh Crìochan began. What was it like in the initial years?

[Iain MacMaster] Oh, it was very different, the old school was here and it wasn’t as big or as fancy as this school. There were minibuses going all over, to the little halls. There were sometimes classes on the buses if the midges were too bad, so it’s changed completely!

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] It now takes place in Acharacle Primary School. What effect has the Fèis had on Gaelic in the area?

[Colin Masterton] Plenty of the children have Gaelic and the tutors too, so that’s good and we try to do songs and tunes from the area itself which is important.

[Iain MacMaster] Well it’s good for the area and especially for the children. It gives them a chance to come together in the holiday s and learn about their culture and that’s important. It gives them the opportunity to speak and hear Gaelic too.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] And what’s the way forward for the Fèis in the years to come?

[Vicky Maclean] They run classes throughout the year so they wish to continue with this and develop on it. They want to keep their heritage, culture and music from their area alive and give everyone an opportunity to be involved with it.

[Iain MacMaster] We must make more of an effort to raise the number of Gaelic speakers and also make Gaelic more natural for them and we must remember the teenagers too. Most are between 8 and 18 and most of the teenagers leave when they are 13 or 14.
