Oighreachd Bharbhais ann an làmhan na coimhearsnachd

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Anne Lundon – Preseantair] Tha Urras Oighreachd Bharbhais ann an Leòdhas air an oighreachd aca fhèin a cheannach às dèidh pàigheadh còrr is £700,000 do bhanca an uachdarain an-diugh. Tha seo a' tighinn às dèidh bliadhnaichean mòra de dh'obair ach tha an t-Urras a' faicinn adhbhar dòchais mar-thà agus àireamh na cloinne san sgìre ag èiridh. Seo Aonghas Dòmhnallach.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach - Neach-aithris] Tha 33,000 acaire an oighreachd Bharabhais, ‘s i sìneadh bho meadhan baile Barabhais fhèin sa cheann a tuath, gu meadhan baile Shiaboist sa cheann a deas. Cha do cheannaich an t-urras an iasgach, bhiodh sin air cosg uimhir eile a-rithist ris an £750,000 a phàigh iad air an fhearann. Ach mar-thà, tha an t-urras air cosnaidhean a chruthachadh.

[Aonghas MacLeòid] Tha dithis againn air fhastadh a-nis, mar a chanadh tu fear a bhios a’ coimhead às dèidh a’ ghnothaich agus am pearsa eile againn airson a bhith coimhead às dèidh, dìreach, rudan na h-oighreachd fhèin, na croitearan agus cumail rian air a’ bhusiness mar a chanadh tu.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach - Neach-aithris] Tha rannsachadh air nochdadh gun gabhadh teachd a-steach seasmhach fhaighinn tro chumhachd ath-nuadhachail agus iad sin a ghluasad air adhart.

[Aonghas MacLeòid] Tha e nar dùil roth-gaoithe, mar a chanas iad, airson dealan a chruthachadh, tha dùil againn sin a dhèanamh. Agus bheir sin bliadhna no dhà no barrachd mus tig e gu ìre ‘s dòcha gum faigh sinn beagan airgid a-steach ri linn bhith cruthachadh dealan. Tha rudan beag eile ann ach na rudan eile ‘s ann gu math beag a bhios an t-airgead ach ‘s ann a’ tighinn a bhios e.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach - Neach-aithris] Agus ged nach eil cùisean a’ coimhead dòchasach ann am pàirtean eile dhen rìoghachd, tha an t-urras a’ coimhead adhbhar dòchais a thaobh mar a tha cùisean ann an sgìre oighreachd Bharabhais.

[Aonghas MacLeòid] ‘S e a sheallas dhut nach eil crìonadh de chlann tha tighinn a-steach dhan sgoil, Sgoil an Taobh Siar ann am Barabhas an seo, uill tha àireamh gu math mòr a’ tighinn a-steach an ath-bhliadhna, nas motha na bha e ann am bliadhnaichean eile. Mar sin dheth chan eil mi faicinn gu bheil cus crìonaidh a’ tighinn ann an-dràsta co-dhiù. Tha an clò mòr tha e gu math trang an-dràsta agus daoine a bhios ag obair air togalaichean agus rudan mar sin. Chan eil mi faicinn cus atharrachaidh an sin thairis air na bliadhnaichean.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach - Neach-aithris] Linn ùr agus obair mhòr a-nis air tòiseachadh. Aonghas Dòmhnallach, BBC An Là, ann am Brù air oighreachd Bharabhais.

Barvas Estate now in the hands of the community

English Beurla

[Anne Lundon – Presenter] Barvas Estate Trust has bought their own estate after paying over £700,000 to the landlord’s bank today. This comes after many years of work but the trust already see a reason to be hopeful, with the number of children in the area on the increase. Here’s Angus MacDonald.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] Barvas estate is 33,000 acres and it ranges from the centre of the village of Barvas itself, in the North, to the middle of the village of Shawbost in the South. The trust didn’t buy the fishery, that would have cost even more than the £750,000 they paid for the land. But already, the trust have created jobs.

[Angus MacLeod] There are two of us now employed, somebody who manages things overall and an individual to look after the things on the estate itself, the crofters and who is responsible for the business side of things.

[Angus MacDonald - Reporter] Research has emerged that a sustainable income can be achieved through renewable energy and that this should be developed.

[Angus MacLeod] We hope to have a wind turbine, as they say, to generate electricity, we hope to achieve that. It will take a year or two to get to the stage where we’re getting a little income as a consequence of generating electricity. There are other small projects and other things and although the income will be small at least there will be money coming in.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] And although matters aren’t hopeful in other parts of the kingdom, the trust have reasons to be hopeful with the situation in the Barvas estate area.

[Angus MacLeod] You can see there isn’t a decline in the school intake of children, Sgoil an Taobh Siar here in Barvas, well there’s a very high number enrolling next year, more than in other years. Therefore I’m not seeing much of a decline at all, not at the moment anyway. The Harris Tweed industry is very busy just now and there’s people who do building work and things like that. I’ve not seen much change in that respect over the years.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] A new era and big projects underway. Angus MacDonald, BBC An Là, in Brue on the Barvas estate.
