Fèis Chiùil agus Dhannsa san Òban

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Alasdair Friseal – Neach-aithris] Bha Fèis Chiùil agus Dhannsa na Gàidhealtachd 's nan Eilean san Òban, air an deireadh-sheachdain. Tha an fhèis air a bhith a' ruith airson 33 bliadhna ach a-nis airson a' chiad uair bha a' Ghàidhlig mar phàirt dhi cuideachd agus tha planaichean aca airson sin a leudachadh. Seo Andreas Wolff.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha an fharpais fìdhle am measg an fheadhainn as cliùitiche aig Fèis Chiùil agus Dhannsa na Gàidhealtachd agus nan Eilean anns an Òban. Thàinig na farpaisich an seo às Na Stàitean Aonaichte. Ach thathar a’ feuchainn ri cliù na fèise a sgaoileadh barrachd.

[Dòmhnall MacIlleathain] Although the festival was jaw dropping, it was actually kind of one of Oban’s best kept secrets and indeed one of Argyll’s. Unless you were really involved as a competitor, or as attached to a competitor you wouldn’t have known that much was going on. So over the past 3 or 4 years we’ve been trying to let the genie out of the bottle a wee bit and spread it, create a festival atmosphere in the town and beyond.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha farpais a’ bhogsa a’ ruith aig an aon àm agus airson a’ chiad uair bha a’ Ghàidhlig mar phàirt dhen fhèis am-bliadhna cuideachd.

[Vicky NicIlleathain] Ged nach eil farpaisean Gàidhlig againne, tha tòrr rudan Gàidhlig a’ dol air adhart aig an aon àm. Mar eisimpleir tha bùithtean-obrach againn air an deireadh-sheachdain agus bidh sinn a’ dèanamh òrain Ghàidhlig, seinn Ghàidhlig.

[Sarah & Niamh] Bha sinn a’ dèanamh còisir agus còmhlan-ciùil. Agus bhuannaich sinn an còisir, an dàrna duais.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Bha na ceudan an làthair gus coimhead air farpaisean an dannsa Gàidhealaich.

Tha e mar, uabhasach mòr dhuinne oir cha bhi sinne a’ dol gu farpaisean cho mòr ri seo, tòrr.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha an fhèis air a bhith a’ ruith fad 33 bliadhna ach tha muinntir na fèise ag iarraidh a leudachadh air feadh na Gàidhealtachd agus nan eilean. Andreas Wolff, BBC An La, An t-Òban.

Music and Dance Festival in Oban

English Beurla

[Alasdair Fraser – Presenter] The Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival was held in Oban at the weekend. The festival has been running for 33 years but now, for the first time, Gaelic was included in it and they have plans to expand this. Here’s Andreas Wolff.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] The fiddle competition is among one of the most prestigious at the Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival in Oban. The competitors have come here from the United States. But they are trying spread the word about the festival.

[Donald MacLean] Although the festival was jaw dropping, it was actually kind of one of Oban’s best kept secrets and indeed one of Argyll’s. Unless you were really involved as a competitor, or as attached to a competitor you wouldn’t have known that much was going on. So over the past three or four years we’ve been trying to let the genie out of the bottle a wee bit and spread it, create a festival atmosphere in the town and beyond.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] The accordion competition is held at the same time and for the first time Gaelic was a part of the festival this year too.

[Vicky MacLean] Although we don’t have Gaelic competitions, there are lots of Gaelic events taking place at the same time. For example we have workshops at the weekend and we’ll be doing Gaelic song, Gaelic singing.

[Sarah & Niamh] We did choir and folk group and the choir won second prize.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] Hundreds were present to watch the Highland dancing competitions. Unfortunately we didn’t have permission to film the competitions themselves.

[Marion & Màiri] The is one of the biggest competitions in Highland dancing. It’s quite big. It’s a very big thing for us as we don’t go to competitions like this often.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] The festival has been running for 33 years but the festival organisers want to extend it across the Highlands and the islands. Andreas Wolff, BBC An Là, Oban.
