App airson seirbheisean èiginn a chuideachadh

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Dòmhnall Angaidh Moireasdan – Preseantair] Nise tha Poilis na h-Alba agus na seirbheisean èiginn eile, a' moladh do dhaoine ann an sgìrean iomallach app a chur air na fònaichean aca, a dh' innseas gu mionaideach far a bheil iad, mas e is gu bheil iad feumach air cobhair. Chan ann a-mhàin do dhaoine am measg nam beanntan, no àitichean fìor iomallach a bhiodh seo; ach dh'fhaodadh e bhith na chuideachadh ann an sgìrean far a bheil ainmean coltach ri chèile ach ma dh' fhaodhte grunn mhìltean eatorra. Tha an aithris seo aig Shona NicDhòmhnaill.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Gach bliadhna, thathar a’ cur fios air na poilis, na carbadan-eiridinn agus an t-seirbheis-smàlaidh na ceudan mhìltean thursan, gu bheil feum orra ann an èiginn. Agus aig amannan ‘s ann gu sgìrean dùthchail a thathar gan gairm.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha mise an-dràsta a-muigh anns a’ mhòintich. Tha mi air Snaoiseabhal fhàgail air mo chùlaibh agus tha fhios agam gu bheil Staoinibrig air an taobh ud agus mum choinneamh tha a’ Bheinn Mhòr. Nam biodh tubaist agam, agus gum bithinn feumach air cobhair a dhèanamh orm, thigeadh agam air deagh thuairmse thoirt dha na seirbheisean èiginn air far a bheil mi. Ach tha a’ mhòinteach farsaing agus bhiodh e cus na b’ fhèarr nam bithinn ann an fìor èiginn nan tigeadh agam air innse dhaibh dha-rìribh far a bheil mi.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Thig aig app làrach san t-saoghail, air am fòn-làimhe, am fiosrachadh mionaideach sin a thoirt dhomh airson innse dha na seirbheisean èiginn.

[Dòmhnall Aonghas MacAonghais] Nam biodh apps aig daoine air am fòn, bhiodh e na b’fhasa dhuinne faighinn a-mach cà’ bheil iad, tha GPS ann agus tha grid reference, eastings agus northings agus tha sin a’ sealltainn cà’il daoine. Tha e nas fhasa dha cuid den ambulance faighinn a-mach cà’il daoine, sàilleabh an-dràsta feumaidh trì masts a bhith ann airson faighinn a-mach bheil iad. sinn an gnothach às an aonais, ach, e barrachd feum nam biodh e aig daoine, chuidicheadh e sinne nas motha cuideachd.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha poilis na h-Alba air moladh do dhaoine ann an coimhearsnachdan iomallach app làrach an t-saoghail a chur air am fòn aca, gun fhios cuin a bhios feum air. Tha an t-seirbheis-smàlaidh agus seirbheis nan carbadan-eiridinn a’ cur taic ris a’ mholadh sin. Chan ann a-mhàin anns a’ mhòintich a dh’ fhaodadh e cuideachadh. Tha ainmean-àite gu math tric nan trioblaid do dhaoine aig gach ceann dhen fòn. Tha Gèirinis ann an Uibhist a Deas coltach ri Càirinis ann an Uibhist a Tuath. Tha Ruaidheabhal ann am Beinn na Fadhla agus ann an Uibhist a Deas.

[Dòmhnall Aonghas MacAonghais] Chan eil e a’ cosg sìon a chur air am fòn agus tha a h-uile fòn a-nis, fònaichean ùra an latha an-diugh, tha e ann co-dhiù, chan eil e a’cosg sìon. Dìreach ga thoirt sìos, ga usaigeadh, ‘s e cuideachadh a th’ann. Chan fheum duine idir a dhèanamh ach tha e a’ dèanamh barrachd cuideachaidh dhuinne.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Mar app agus teicneòlas sam bith eile, cha bu chòir do daoine a bhith nan eisimeil a-mhàin. Ach dh’ fhaodadh e cuideachadh gus an lorg ann an àm ann an èiginn. Shona NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An ann an Uibhist.

App to help the emergency services

English Beurla

[Donald Morrison - Presenter] Now, Police Scotland and the other emergency services are recommending that people in remote areas install an app on their phone which gives their detailed location if they ever need help. Not only would this be useful for hill walkers or people in extremely remote areas, but it could also help in areas with similar place names which are many miles apart. Shona MacDonald has this report.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Each year, the police, ambulance and fire services are called out to emergencies hundreds of thousands of times. And sometimes those callouts are to rural areas.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] I am currently out on the moor. I’ve left Snishival behind me and I know that Stoneybridge is that side and in front of me is Ben More. If I were to have an accident and I needed help, I could give the emergency services a good approximate location. But the moor is extensive, it would be much better if I were to be in extreme danger if I could tell them my specific location.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] A geolocation app, on your mobile phone, can give me this detailed information the emergency services require.

[Donald Angus MacInnes] If people had an app on their phone, it would be easier for us to find out where they are, it has GPS and a grid reference, eastings and northings and that shows where people are. It makes it easier for the ambulance service to locate people, as at the moment three masts are required to locate people. We can manage without it, but it would help us more if people had it.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Police Scotland have recommended that people in remote communities put the geolocation app on their phone, because you never know when you might need it. The fire service and the ambulance service support this recommendation. It’s not just in moorland it could be useful. Place names are often a cause of confusion at each end of the phone. Geirinish in South Uist is similar to Carnish in North Uist. There’s a Rueval in Benbecula and in South Uist.

[Donald Angus MacInnes] It doesn’t cost a thing to install on your phone and every phone now, modern day phones, will be able to have it and it doesn’t cost anything. You just download it and use it, it’s helpful. People don’t need to do it but it a great help to us.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] With apps and other technology, people shouldn’t be completely reliant on them alone. But it could help find them in time in an emergency. Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là in Uist.
