Bùithtean-obrach mu chall an dealain

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Anne Lundon – Preseantair] Nise cho deiseil agus a tha coimhearsnachdan airson nan trioblaidean a dh'fhaodadh a thighinn an cois fìor-dhroch aimsir? Tha SSE air bùithtean-obrach a chur air dòigh air feadh nan Eilean Siar airson cuideachadh le coimhead às dèidh a chèile ma chailleas daoine an dealan, a thuilleadh air duilgheadasan eile a dh'fhaodadh èirigh ri linn droch aimsire. Tha tuilleadh aig Shona NicDhòmhnaill.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Le lìonra nas treise air feadh nan eileanan, chan eil daoine a’ call an dealain cho tric agus a b’ àbhaist. Ach a dh’ aindeoin sin tha e riatanach a bhith deiseil airson nan trioblaidean a thig an cois droch aimsir. Mar sin, tha a’ chompanaidh dealain SSE ag amas air coimhearsnachdan a chuideachadh mu choinneamh sin.

[Calum Ìosaph Mac a’ Phì] Tha e taghta dhuinne a bhith a’ deasachadh airson a bhith a’ dol air falbh agus a’ càradh uèirichean agus a’ cur a’ phower air ais gu taighean. Ach feumaidh sinn coimhead às dèidh nan daoine, muinntir an àite cuideachd agus ma gheibh iad còmhla agus ma bhios iad deiseil air a shon bidh àitichean againn far am faod iad biadh a theasachadh do dhaoine, gu seachd àraidh seann daoine no daoine le clann òga.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Thairis air naoi latha anns An Fhaoilleach am-bliadhna, bha 20 trioblaid aig SSE ri chàradh air feadh lìonra an dealain anns na h-Eileanan an Iar. Thairis air an aon àm an-uiridh, bha 126 trioblaidean rin càradh às dèidh aimsir air leth. Aig an àm sin, thug Cal Mac cuideachadh do 50 duine anns na Hearadh leis a’ bhàt’-aiseig am Finlaggan, a’ cur air dòigh deoch agus biadh teth còmhla ri goireasan airson nighe. Ach tha feum aig coimhearsnachdan fhèin a bhith deiseil airson daoine a chuideachadh.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach] Tha buidheann aca a-nis airson mar a tha obair nan cabhsairean agus stoirm ann agus gnothaichean mar sin airson cabhsairean a dhùnadh ‘s tha iad a’ deisealachadh deasbad a’ ghnothaich làithean ron àm. Agus tha fhios aca tha iad dol a dhèanamh ma thachras an gnothach. So tha mi smaoineachadh gum biodh e glè mhath nam biodh buidheann, cha leig e leas a’ bhuidheann a bhith ro mhòr ach nam biodh deannan dhaoine ann a dh’ fhuiricheadh còmhla agus, “nì thusa siud agus mise seo.”

[Calum Ìosaph Mac a’ Phì] Chan ann really, son an dealan a bhith dheth idir ach nan tigeadh stoirm dhona, dhona ‘s gum milleadh i an t-àite, airson ‘s gum faigheadh sinn muinntir an àite a bhith deiseil air a shon agus gum bi fhios aig daoine cà’ tig iad ‘s iad.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Bidh bùth-obrach ann an Steòrnabhagh Diluain sa tighinn, air An Tairbeart Dimàirt, an latha mu dheireadh dhen Chèitean agus ann am Beinn na Faoghla Diciadain, 1mh den Ògmhios. Shona NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An Là, ann an Uibhist. =

Workshops on power cuts

English Beurla

[Anne Lundon – Presenter] Now, how prepared are communities for problems which could arise as a result of severe weather? SSE have organised workshops across the Western Isles to help people prepare for looking after one another if there’s a loss of power, as well as other problems which could arise due to bad weather. Shona MacDonald has more.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] With a stronger network across the islands, people don’t lose their power as much as they did in the past. But despite that, it’s essential to be prepared for problems which arise as a result of bad weather. Therefore, the energy company SSE is aiming to help communities prepare for that.

[Malcolm Joseph MacPhee] It’s fine for us, getting things ready to go out to repair the lines and get power back into the houses. But we must look after the people, the local people and if they come together they can prepare. We can have places where they can heat up food for others, especially the elderly or people with young children.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Over nine days in January this year, SSE had 20 faults to repair across the Western Isles’ power network. Over the same time period last year, there were 126 faults in need of repair after extreme weather. At that time, Cal Mac gave assistance to 50 people in Harris with the ferry the Finlaggan, providing hot food and drink along with washing facilities. But communities themselves must be prepared to assist others.

[Angus MacDonald] They now have a group for dealing with the causeways, in the event of a storm and they need to close them, they can discuss the issue days beforehand. And they are prepared for it and know what to do in advance. So I think it would be quite good for there to be a group, it doesn’t need to be a big group, but if there were a number of people who could gather together and delegate, “you do that and I’ll do this.”

[Malcolm Joseph MacPhee] It’s not really for when there’s a power cut, but for if a severe storm were to come and cause damage to the area. If we were to have communities prepared for it, for people to know where to go and what to do.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] There will be a workshop in Stornoway next Monday, in Tarbert on Tuesday, the 31st May and in Benbecula on Wednesday, 1st June. Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là, in Uist.
