Am Pàipear aig 40

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Innes Rothach – Preseantair] Tha iris mhìosail Uibhist, Am Pàipear, 40 bliadhna a dh’ aois agus tha taisbeanadh sònraichte ga chumail ann an Sgoil Lìonacleit airson an ceann-bliadhna sònraichte seo a chomharrachadh. Gheibh daoine cothrom sùil a thoirt air ais tron h-uile iris a chaidh fhoillseachadh le mòran de na dealbhan ‘s pìosan ealain a nochd anns a’ phàipear cuideachd gan taisbeanadh. Ged a tha an t-eadar-lìon na dhùbhlan mòr do phàipearan-naidheachd traidiseanta, tha beachd làidir ann gum bi Am Pàipear maireann airson iomadach bliadhna fhathast, mar a tha Shona NicDhòmhnaill ag aithris.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha ceòl aig a h-uile cuirm ceann-bliadhna sònraichte, agus cèic.

[Alasdair Allan BPA] Airson an breith dhut Am Pàipear, tha mi an dòchas gum bi a’ bheatha agadsa a’ tòiseachadh aig 40 bliadhna a dh’ aois agus tha mi toilichte a ràdh gu bheil an taisbeanadh seo gu h-oifigeil fosgailte.

[Catriona Garbutt] A’ sealltainn air na dealbhan sin, bheir iad air ais a leithid a chuimhneachain agus gu h-àraidh a’ mhisneachd a bh’ aig an fheadhainn a thòisich air a’ phàipear a bha seo. Agus gu math tric ged a thòisichear rudan, cha tèidear ro fhada leotha agus bidh e dol ma sgaoil ach tha seo, tha e cho soirbheachail agus a’ sìor dhol am meud really nach eil?

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha Am Pàipear ga fhoillseachadh gach mìos, loma-làn naidheachdan ionadail agus cuid a naidheachdan nàiseanta agus eadar-nàiseanta a tha toirt buaidh air Uibhist.

[Alasdair Allan BPA] Chan e a h-uile coimhearsnachd aig a bheil pàipear cho math ris Am Pàipear. So an taisbeanadh a th’ann a-nochd ‘s e pìos eachdraidh Uibhist a th’ann ach cuideachd tha e ag ràdh rudeigin cudromach mu dheidhinn cho làidir ‘s a tha a’ choimhearsnachd fhèin.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha sgeulachd air cùlaibh a h-uile dealbh a tha ri fhaicinn aig an taisbeanadh ann an taigh-tasgaidh nan eilean aig Sgoil Lìonacleit. Ach le naidheachdan a’ nochdadh air an eadar-lìon ann am prioba na sùla , am mair pàipear-naidheachd ann an clò sna bliadhnaichean ri teachd?

[Iain Stephen Moireasdan] Leithid làraich-lin, tha mi smaoineachadh gu bheil an latha aca sin an ìre mhath seachad. Na meadhanan sòisealta, tha beagan cothrom an sin ach tha mi smaointinn, nuair a tha thu bruidhinn air naidheachdan coimhearsnachd agus na meadhanan sòisealta, tha na h-àireamhan cho beag agus nach eil mi smaoineachadh gun obraich e buileach cho math ‘s a dh’ obraicheas aig ìre nàiseanta agus eadar-nàiseanta. ‘S mar sin tha àite ann fhathast airson rudeigin ann an clò, air pàipear, ann an dòigh air choreigin. Agus ma fhaodhte gun atharraich sin ach tha mi smaointinn nach obraich na meadhanan sòisealta leotha fhèin.

[Catriona Garbutt] Feumaidh mi ràdh ‘s toil leam fhìn am faireachdainn aig pàipear. Tha fhios agam gu bheil a h-uile sìon an-diugh air an iPhone ach ‘s toil leam dìreach am faireachdainn aig a’ phàipear agus tionndaidh nan duilleagan.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] ‘S e pàipear coimhearsnachd a th’ anns Am Pàipear, iris a tha air grunn dhuaisean fhaighinn.

[Alasdair Allan BPA] Feumaidh cuideigin a bhith ann airson an naidheachd sin a chur ri chèile ann an dòigh a tha dèanamh ciall agus sin an seòrsa obrach a tha deagh phàipear ionadail a’ dèanamh.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Bidh an taisbeanadh fosgailte chun an 3mh dhen t-Sultain. Shona NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An ann an Uibhist.

Am Pàipear at 40

English Beurla

[Innes Munro – Presenter] Uist’s monthly newspaper, Am Pàipear, is 40 years old and there’s a special exhibition being held at Liniclate School to mark this special anniversary. There will be an opportunity for people to look through every issue of the paper and there’s many photographs and illustrations which appeared in the paper being exhibited. Although the internet proves a great challenge to traditional newspapers, there’s a strong opinion that Am Pàipear will last for many years to come, as Shona MacDonald reports.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] There’s music at every celebration of a special anniversary, and cake.

[Alasdair Allan MP] For your birthday Am Pàipear, I hope that life begins at 40 for you and I’m very pleased to say that this exhibition is now open.

[Catriona Garbutt] Looking at those pictures, they bring back so many memories and in particular the confidence shown by those who started this newspaper. And very often although you may start something, it doesn’t always last and it peters out but this has been so successful, it’s kept growing really hasn’t it?

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Am Pàipear is published each month and it is packed with local news and some national and international news which impacts Uist.

[Alasdair Allan MP] It’s not every community that has a paper as good as Am Pàipear. So this exhibition tonight is not only a piece of Uist history but it’s also sending an important message of how strong the community itself is.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] There’s a story behind every picture at the exhibition at the island’s museum at Liniclate School. But with news appearing online in an instant, will a newspaper last in the years to come?

[Iain Stephen Morrison] The likes of websites, I think their days are over. Social media, there’s some scope there but I think, in relation to community news and social media, that the numbers are so small that I don’t think it would work quite so well as it works at a national and international level. Therefore there’s still a place for something in print, for newspapers, in some way. Perhaps that will change but I don’t think social media will work on its own.

[Catriona Garbutt] I must say I like the feel of a newspaper. I know everything today is on an iPhone but I like just the feel of a newspaper and turning the pages.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Am Pàipear is a community newspaper, a publication that has won numerous awards.

[Alasdair Allan MP] Someone needs to be there put the news stories together in a sensible way and that’s the kind of work a good local paper does.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The exhibition will be open until the 3rd September. Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là in Uist.
